Kazaa reaches 6 million GB. Can the RIAA shut down file sharing? Inflate your Upload Space

What sort of legislation has been done in this field? Could I be arrested for downloading, can Kazaa or iMesh be legally shut down, etc. I want to know whether my free music supply is going to be threatened.

How can Kazaa be shut down easily? I was under the impression that it doesn't rely on centralised servers.

IIRC, two years ago officials in the netherlands raided several homes going after suspected kazaa users. so the EU probably won't protect P2P.

kazaa should be relatively easy to shut down, Sharmon networks (the owner) is nearly bankrupt, a result of all the legal battles they have had to fight. But another, and another will take its place.

BTW, do any Kazaa users actually use the original Kazaa?

Most people use Kazaa Lite.

I guess if Kazaa goes down it's back to /listing IRC channels for me.....

Tired of ads?

Piracy will end when politicians will understand the flow of history, and make file-sharing legal. RIAA and alikes are desperately fighting against their fate. The tide is against them, and they'll postpone their unavoidable downfall as long as possible.

come on 29 euros for a CD?

dinodoc will say our social welfare system is to blame.

bring the prices down, and the problem will go away.

what if you lose some profits? big deal.

plus mp3 haring isnt necessarily bringing down sales all by itself.

in the uk people have been buying more CDs after cheking 1 or 2 songs in a p2p program.

at least that happened some months ago

Tired of ads?

A better system would be... lowering the price of CDs drastically, and giving the artists a wage every month instead of the artist earning money depending on how much they sell...

Naturally, some artists will get a higher pay as they are more valuable to the distributor, just like in a regular company employees who do more important work get paid more...

Also, in an entreprise employees that work harder and do more work and thus are more valuable than other employees who do the same work still get the same pay

Anyway this way everybody gains, except Shakira and the like, they will not be so filthy rich anymore, but they'll still be pretty wealthy, and at the same time, more unknown artists won't be so needy anymore,... the distributors will also quit the whining because we'll be happy and start buying more CDs again (I said "more")

Say does this make sense or is it utter and complete bs you think?

Of course this is not a very capitalist way of thinking so I guess it won't be pulled off ever

but lowering the prices, in any way this can be done, seems like the only cure for themoment.

private FTPs ?? well you're lucky, almost nobody has access to that except the absolute freaks heheheh...

Btw: shutting down kazaa would hurt the file sharing market because Kazaa is a major source for spreading files over the whole world..

all your university computers are LANned? The building I'm in also has a network (speed is pretty sucky though) but most people password it, otherwise everybody would be downing hardcore, slowing their computers pretty hard... so there's not much warez here

You're going to the wrong places. I can find CD's for half that money. In fact, I just bought two DVD's for less than that.

Maybe things will change when the music industry will be about music again, rather than money.
