1260 B.C: What to research? Support Apolyton

we have 4 different sciences we can research:

1. Shipbuilding (2 turns) which would give us the possibillty to construct huge fleets of coracles to rule the seas and wide arrays of nets to catch all the fish. of course we would have to find some water before. also this would enable us to research alchemy (fire trireme, a worthy addition to our non-existant navy) and hullmaking (longship, port) once we have geometry.

2. masonry (3 turns) which will allow us to construct aqueducts, which will enable our biggest cities to grow even more (at the moment they still can grow, though slowly) by reducing the happiness mali due to overpopulation and enabling a greater citysize, as well as a wonder that sadly has already been built by some other nation. the path leads from here to concrete (arenas and another wonder already built) and feudalism (knights!, pikemen!, capitol)

3. iron working (4 turns) which would allow us to build samurais, fast and strong offensive units. this road leads to cannonmaking, modern metallurgy and the printing press, but thats a long long road yet.

4. geometry (13! turns) which gives us the catapult, an awesome ranged weapon, slow but bringing horrible death from above as this is the first unit able to bombard. in the longrun this will give us access to classical education (universities, need bureaucracy, which needs feudalism, which needs masonry!), hullmaking (see 1.) shipbuilding) and physics, which will be a very long way to go.

5. pepsi flavoured vanilla coke (aka abstain)

NOTE: at the moment we are currently researching geometry which was cleary choice #2 after horseriding according to the last poll. the game is currently going on via the turn thread. should this poll bring a quick result that something else should be researched, the goal will be changed, if that result will come at a moment, where we would have to waste research points already spent by going back to a faster science, i doubt that will be changed, unless very strong reasons will be named.

Zaphod,

as a reminder:

If this is supposed to be an official poll, do say so in the titel, otherwise it is considered unofficial.

Welcome back HuangShang, it’s been a while.

I’m inclined to go with geometry this time. Our last research project (IIRC) leaned more towards civil improvements, so I think it’s time we give our military a new means of clobbering all those that oppose us.

well, would it be an official poll, there should be another timelimit than 0 days. and of course would it be an official poll we would have to change to e.g. shipbuilding when that gets chosen in lets say 5 days, which might be just after the next turn chat when we will have spent 12 turns of research on geometry. so i decided to let this be an inofficial poll, which won't have any influence on the game, like our con says this leaves to the point, that i decide what will be researched, well... maybe i'll have a look here before deciding

FYI:

Even an official poll does not need to time out!

DoT,

could you please stay out of my thread.............

ups, it isn't mine???????????

Never mind

And actually:

Zaphod, just recognised Iron working is in range, we might want to get this ASAP as well.........our offensive (did I say offensive??????) units are really getting oooooooooooold. (Hey Grandpa, ready for the retirement?)

As a reminder for non-CTP's and people forgetting about (like myself):
Our best direct attacker is a 1/1/1 unit (the warrior), therefore we are already using Hoplites 1/2/1 as it has better chances to survive. (Attack/Defence/Movement)

Samurai is offering 4/2/2 (?).

this means the pollresult should be read geometry-1 iron working+1?

still a big majority for geometry, so that goal won't be changed yet.

Suffering from ads?

No, I still mean GEO first, but we should consider taking Iron work quite soon......

Your thinking of CTP1. Samurai in SAP is:

att - 20
def - 10
ran - 0
firepwr - 2
arm - 1

but it costs alot to build and is wasted easily (like most assault units), i think we'd be better off bombarding w/ catapults instead, we'll lose alot less units that way. Lets leave Iron Working until we need Printing Press or whatever IMO.

although there would still be time left to change our research project (whats about those thread turns locutus?) the result of this poll seems to be clear.(though 41 citizens haven't voted yet )

follow up poll: http://www.apolyton.com/forums/show...&threadid=82742
