It's closing in on Barb camp season, which normally starts ~2500BC! We should definitely get camps somewhere up in the N, and SE, and initially at least, to the W.
Barb camps spawn with their resident, 25g, and a wanderer. Depending on the barbarian settings (we are on roaming?) another wanderer forms every so many turns. I really have no idea how fast they come (almost always kill the camps ASAP), but it's more than 20 turns between wanderer's on roaming. The exception being uprisings, which happen once the second civ goes into the next era.
When a camp is killed, it will respawn if a valid location is open to it, or just wait for one. THey seem to be linked to general areas. For instance, if we kill the one N, it isn't likely to spawn anywhere except N again, unless their is another landmass quite close by. That means we can kill the wanderer and the camp, collect our tribute, and the camp will likely spawn pretty close by. As we expand northwards, the area for valid spawns diminishes, and the spawns become much easier to find.
Best units for camp killing are Horsemen, but they will obviously have to wait. In our case, regular NM's will work great. We end up with Elite NM's shortly, and there isn't too much chance that we'd ever lose one (+100% vs barbs... 4vs1... plus a hp advantage). Because of this we don't need Barracks for quite some time. Really, we only need them once we get to the point we want to upgrade Warriors or expand up N of the Mountains.
The problem with NM's is they cost a lot of shields, and we don't have the best production capacity yet. We also don't have a lot of room to expand without chopping Jungles first. Archers are a possibility, but even Elite Archers aren't worth a whole lot unless we plan to go to war yesterday. Our build path just isn't anywhere near optimal for an Archer rush. An Archer to take out Hill or Mountain camps would probably be a good idea. We can also risk Warriors doing the hunting, but even with the bonus against barbs it's pretty risky.
Another option is to pop rush a couple NM's. A city with a mined Bonus Grassland will give us enough time to fit in a Warrior, then 1 turn of Wealth (2 in most cases, no wealth if the city gets to share the Game tile though), and still have 10 shields in the box when we hit size 2 so we can rush the rest. A city with just a regular mined Grassland just cuts out the wealth. Cities that only have 1 production are probably better off building us Workers. We'd only want to do this once per city though. I would rather see our population all funneled into Workers, but if we really want a couple NM's out fast, this would be the best way.

How to corner and kill Barbs:
First we send a NM and a Warrior or two. Up North it will take 2 Warriors. The 2 Warriors take lookout positions at locations which will keep the camps from forming where we don't want them to... that being too close to our cities or on Hills/Mountains. Barb camps can't spawn within the sight radius of a military unit or city.
Then the NM kills the hut in the area, and moves back into the known lands. Having 2 units do the killing works best, but initially we are only going to have enough for 1. The NM then heals up if necessary, and moves back into the unknown to kill the camp again. We should avoid killing the wanderers unless they get in our way. If they head towards our cities, we have time to prepare a unit back home to hit them.
Once a unit has reached Elite status, we send it back home to swap in a new reg unit (if one is available) to the rotation.
Initial testing in the scenario shows a 6 turn camp killing rotation with 2 units in the N, and a 6-8 turn rotation with just 1. That's a pretty good supplement to our treasury, ~4gpt. Add in a good chance we can do the same thing in the SE, and we stand to make 8gpt. Not to mention all our units at Elite status relatively quickly.

Once we get 2 NM's, send one to the barb camps. Promote him, then send another one. Repeat.
