	Islam as religion of peace Remove this text

One of my best friends is muslim. She says, that Islam is really religion of peace, if it is not guided by dictators and fanatics. The Iraqi Islam is not the Islam from the Koran. Suicide bombers are not mentioned in Koran.

Explain your opinion on the topic here.

Case in point.
- Islam includes the OT of the Bible in its teachings.
- Islam therefore worships a god who is clearly responsible for mass murder, and encouraging the Hebrews to conquer (Read "Rape, pillage and slaughter") the Cannites.
- Islam is therefore not a religion of peace.

What more do you need?

I will give Islam one thing though. It's more of a religion of peace than Christanity. Afterall, the Christian god ordered his followers to kill all those of a different religion, including family members, friends and even their cattle, whereas the Moslem god simply required the enslaving of nonbelievers. (Deuteronomy 13:6-15 and Koran 9:29)

Every religion claims to want nothing but peace. And peaceful followers of any certain religion cannot but call all more violent versions of their faith "abusing religion", being "not truly religious" etc.

BTW., there's no special "Iraqi islam". All muslim nations are highly intolerant towards non-believers - even towards the ahl al-kitab (people of the book - Christians and Jews and Zoroastrians and "Sabeans"), at least judged by our standards of religious liberties. According to several muslim schools of law, other religious groups beside muslims and ahl al-kitab do not have a right of existance in a muslim country (shiites believe so, but also shafiite and other sunnites).

What an utter load of rubbish. Why do people make these tasteless jokes which send a negative message and yet do not back it up in any way whatsoever.
As to Islam being a religion of peace-so is every other religion, provided you interpret it the way you want to (not that I do not say correctly, as there is no 'correct' interprettation).

If you'd like to make yourself more coherient, I'll gladly debate you on the point. Personally, I find many of your justifications (There was 1 rape gang in Sodom (Which Lot gave his virgin daughters to instead of the guests. Guess they're not as important to him because they're women, even though they're his own relations, eh? [And let's not forget the fact that they'll later have his children after his wife turns to salt]), and apparently some people liked Anal sex......geez, it's a wonder all the major cities on earth are still standing with standards like that.

To Archaic: not because of rapers, but because of citizen support them.
My tanah teacher, who i respect a lot, says that there are two sides of religion: belief and demonstration. Yeshayahu says, that god want no demonstration without real belief and good acts. Also he mention that not the whole nation suffer from several "bad" people, but the whole nation suffer from their own crimes. But some haredime here can not understand it

As many others have said, but some people still seem to wilfully ignore: there is no such thing as 'true Islam', just like there is no such thing as 'true Christianity'.

Islam isn't fundamentially any more or less violent than Christianity. The capacity for people to commit atrocities in the name of their God is not affected by denomination.

I wouldn't say that it's a "religion of war," whatever the devil that would mean, but seeing as Mohammed himself used war as a means to expand the faith to most of the Arabian peninsula before he died, and his immediate successors carried on the expansion for about a hundred years afterward, I don't think you can call Islam intrinsically peaceful either. I'm not trying to smear the religion here, just stating the facts so far as I know.

The meaning of religion is in the eyes of the beholder.

Evil people will twist a religion to suit their agenda. They will use it to justify suicide bombing, or they will use it to justify going to war.

Good people interpret religion in a peaceful manner.

The religion is irrelevant, really. People only use it as a tool to justify their actions. Without religion, something else would be used to justify violence.

I oppose religion on two grounds:

1)It's a lie.
2)It's used as a tool by either bad people, or people that think they're good, but really are bad.

And you can back that up with scripture verses? Please find me one instance where it says all the people of Gomorrah supported the rapists, or quite frankly, where it even says that they're rapists besides where Lot offers the mob his daughters. (Generally, "that we may know them" would be more along the lines of wanting to meet them then raping, wouldn't you agree? But then we get into semantics, the accuracy of the translation, and the time period.)

Which contradicts all the scripture that says that salvation is by faith alone. (Though doesn't contradict all the scripture that says that salvation isn't by faith alone. Don't you love contradictions?)
