map editor help? Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

Why does Civ2 insist on putting "poles" on my premade maps? It makes sense for random maps, but not for, say, ANTARTICA!!!(Altho that one's not mine) Or a wet, warm world with caps of jungle/swamp instead of arctic!

The poles you're referring to are the game's way of delinating the map, nothing more. I imagine the programmers chose arctic/glacial terrain for this delination because, frankly, you can't do hardly anything with that sort of land. I suppose they could have used two black strips ...

You can remove poles by making the map flat.

Wasn't it also that when starting a new game on that map, you have to select "Flat World" in the rules page?

I was under the impression that the map *borders* (i.e. north/south) remain intact, whether the world is round or flat. Isn't that what he's talking about?
