Simple. Apply again next year. In the meantime work on the areas where you thought your application was weak, like leadership.

Suggestions on that - do some volunteer work, coach a kids sports team, maybe lead some youth activities like church stuff if you are so inclined, be a camp counselor, whatever.

One door closes, another one opens.

If you have a goal in your sights, and truly believe that your destiny is there, then you cannot be stopped.

Persistence, and not losing hope will get you there.

For a young fellow, and one that seems to be sharp, there is a planet full of options.

Don't look at it as rejection, just a redirection of your path to the goal!

All the best,
Curt

Suffering from ads?

Just look on it as character building. If you really are officer material you'll make the most of this rejection. If not, you'll wallow and feel sorry for yourself.

If you re-apply they'll definitely be looking at how you used your time after this setback.

Similar thing happened to me... My grades should have been high enough for med school, but they had an unusually large applicant pool that year, so they could only accept about half of the people with my grade. Needless to say, I didn't make the lottery (in the swedish system they didn't use any of those character things or anything), so I attended engineering school instead, fully intending to apply again next year.

Well, not being accepted was the best thing that ever happened to me, cause I would have been miserable... I wanted to be a MD do to research in molecular biology, but when I finally studied MB as a part of the Chem Eng curriculum, I hated it. With a passion.

Not saying the same will happen to you, though, so I'm seconding AH. Either bum around for a year, or attend freshman year at the uni, and then apply again. Who knows what will happen? Maybe you'll get acepted next year. Maybe you will find a subject you really love. Uni is quite different from High School...

This is pretty much what im forced to do, at this point, so ill see how it goes. After attending a civilian college for a year, i may not wanna give up my freedoms that i will enjoy, to go to a military academy. And like some have said, i may find something better to do. Ive just been shocked, i guess. With a little time, ill come to and be able to think more clearly. I have plenty of time, and i agree with waht Ted Striker said, i should just chill for the time being.

There must be others that have a similar story as me! Ive heard Pekka's, Drake Tungsten's, and Cybergnu's...

Again, thanks for all the suggestions, adn if you have any more ideas or advice, please let me know!

Kman

Full PM-box? Change here!

I agree with most of you, take some time off, relax and enjoy yourself. Don't take to much stress, you'll live longer. Also it's good sometimes to think that this isn't everything there's to life, but I know how much it means and how important it is. It's like a matter of life and death sometimes. My D-day will be in two months, and I can't really read to prepare myself to that test, and I have to score max points to get in. My vision blurs and stomach aches even to think about it, I get hot like in fever, but forgetting that it's damn exciting pressure and I enjoy it! It's like Las Vegas, you either win or lose, stakes are your life! But like I said earlier, we'll come out winners, one way or another. But yeah, it's huge amounts of pressure..

PS. please pray for me the next 2 months that I'll get in I need all the luck in the world.

If it's your first year in school, you may be be able to get away with appling for financial aid late. I did my first year and I got full Federal and state grants. You won't get suplimentary grants, but those two should be enough to get you into a good state school, on top of any loans you will be eligible for.

Thank you everyone for your ideas and support, i very much appreciate it. Ive been looking into things, and it might not be too bad after all. Some good things will definately come of this, i just do not know what exactly...
becasue of this, my feelings have turned from apprehension and anxiety (and a little bit of failure and depression), to almost of an excitement or thrill. Ill let you guys know ho0w things turn out over the months and years to come (as im quite certain i wil be a permanent fixture of OT for now on... it seems to be the only constant in my life right now )

please feel free to continue to post similar problems from the past, present, or future, or any other help one might be able to give

Thanks again

Krammerman, im sorry to hear about this whole debacle...ive gone through a little bit of the same, although all rejection was my own fault, not that of a board that reviews everything.

3 years ago after i dropped out of high school, i thought i was going to spend the rest of my life living at home and working shitty jobs. i was depressed about that prospect and for the next year and a half about i crawled into a little hole of fulltime work and sleep after 2 semesters at community college. after working for about 6 months fulltime at round table pizza i realized that school was neccesary to success.

i went back and did alright but i was kind of pissed that i had to do so much for so little of what i wanted to do in school. I basicly was working towards and Associate of the Arts for electronic music, but only taking 6 classes relating specificly to audio production. i was demotivated by the idea that the next 2 years of my life was going to be spent living at home, working somewhat towards what i wanted.

well i quit JC and worked at UPS for about 9 months loading packages in trucks...hard honest work where i met a lot of people like me, at a crossroads in life. I basicly saw that hard work is the key to success and knowing the right people and how to work with them will help immensily. i also found out how to budget my life according to what i want.

about january i found out my dad was moving to seattle, and that i wouldnt be having a place to stay down here, so i figured hell, ill apply to the art institute (with the suggestion from my mom). i got in despite my past (although they arent really that hard to get into).

now starting july im going to a great school, living with like minded people, and getting started on my life as an adult.

so my advice is, dont let anything set you back, turn it around into something good. sometimes you wind up somewhere else and great after everything was lost.
