Celebrating Cities Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

I keep getting messages to say that the citizens of a city are so happy with me that they are aholding a celebration in my honour. This appears to happen when the happines level in a city reaches a certain level (85 in my game I think) but I don't know whether this is dependant on the level I am playing (2nd easiest).

Can anyone tell me whether there is a specific benefit from these celebrations as the manual seems not to mention them. If I remember correctly in CTP1 there was an increase in population but this does not seem to happen. If its relevant I am currently a Fascist Government.

Any help from more experienced playes would be appreciated.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

There is no benefit. You're better off keeping happiness at around 73 by lowering the Empire sliders, using less Entertainers and/or building less happiness buildings...

Enter the AD-FREE zone

I thinki about it as a warning: "Your people is too happy! Make them suffer by maximizing the slider"

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Thanks.

Most of my happiness has come from Wonders and Martial Law, but I can certainly make adjustments to the sliders. Most of the cities I capture seem to have at least 2 happiness improvements - the AI seems very keen on them!

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Probably it tones down crime and coruption in the city. But the result is obviously if you raise the sliders in order to make your people happier, you see that you need less turns to reasearch the next advance.
