There are several versions of X-COM. The one that came on floppy disks has copy protection, but the version that came out on CD-ROM does not. I got the CD version in a bargain bin. I had no clue what it was but it looked cool. It turned out to be the best $3 I ever spent.
Both these versions run too fast on modern computers, and both are a bit buggy. However, there was a bonus CD that came out with some computer game magazine that included a version designed to run on modern computers. It also seems less buggy; this is the version you want to get.

Looks like you officially can't.
Perhaps there's a hidden link?

Sorry, I donŽt know the name of the magazine or where to get that version. Someone e-mailed it to me a while ago. I also saw it mentioned on a FAQ on an x-com web site, they said that they donŽt give out copies and to order a back issue of the magazine.
