I just had a 30 minutes long phone conversation with Shiber. Due to the nature of phonecalls, I dont remember everything so I'll post what I remember now and add more later when I remember more.
------------------
The GS people are both shocked and confused concerning the war. They were certain that we will return to Bob after the withdrawal and were sure that the relations between Vox and GS were very positive.
In fact, Shiber tried to convince me how easy it will be for us to get a hold on Bob... He told me what luxuries we can get there etc.
They fell for the trick. I told Shiber that we have a powerful force on Bob. That all the talks by GoW about easy victory for GoW are wrong because they havent seen how powerful our force there is.
He inquired about our motives. He said that they just dont believe why with all the good land on Bob, and after the humiliation of retreating from there, we decided to attack GS.
I answered that we have split our force to two parts, one on Bob and one against them.
He asked about our targets. Whether we go for land, or resources or anything else. I preffered not to answer.
He asked for an explanation about the sea landing on the East Coast. I avoided the question by saying that I dont know what are the objectives are, but I assume that it's simply a second front and emphasized that it's only a guess.
I asked him about their expectations from the Bob civs. He said that they dont expect cooperation... That the fight against us on Bob and on our continent are different unrelated issues.
They dont like RP. He never said it out loud, but it was clear.
We talked about Lux. I mistakengly told him that a Lego galley was 2 turns away(confused this a bit) and he was really surprised, but that's not really relevant.
Basically, I told him that we dont go to the war because we like it, but because we have no other choice, strategically thinking.
Overall, they are insulted. He talked about how happy they were when they discovered that our starting location sucks, how they supposedly gave in to our positions in some trade deal, how they could destroy us 1000 years ago, etc.
I'll try to remember more stuff.
The impression I got is that it was a last attempt to convince us to back off from the war by showing us how much we can gain from Bob and how good can cooperation between Vox and GS can be.

quote: Great stuff Eli. And Shiber is a really good guy too. He is not as arrogant as some on that team. I"m sorry he is caught up in this. |
Yeah. I really hated it when I had to blatantly lie. It's harder over the phone...

He's a fellow Israeli. I actually dont know him much, but he insisted to make this phonecall and I have the impression that GS were trying to make some personal discussion with one of us in an attempt to get more info, knowing that phone talks give much more direct and indirect info.

I wonder why. That may also explain the feelings of Togas/RP offering help.

This is probably the most truthful thing we have told anyone.

I guess they do not realize how much we gave them. If we held out communications with other civs they would have been in a bind research wise while we would have done good in comparison on tech deals.
If this ends up being the downfall of GS that the world is expecting then I would sum up their demise as this: They may be experts in the mechanics of Civ3 but they do not understand teams. The interworkings of teams, and their perceptions, are as much or more important in this game. All they have done is make a world that fears them and together the masses are rising up against them.
