Syberia Remove this text

Just spotted Syberia in the local store - looks fun - web site suggests its good (but it would wouldn't it) - anyone out there with any experience, comments to make?

I'm looking for a game similar to the Broken Sword series to play with my wife (who hates civ)...

It's the only adventure game I've seen given good reviews for a good while. I keep meaning to pick up a copy myself, since I've played the vast majority of the genre. Let me know how it goes if you get it.

I also want to get it, but I'm really having so little time to play all of my other games... I'd only pick it if it is reeeaaally good.

I played it and loved every minute of it. Every second of it, even. It has an absolutely great story, and totally fascinating graphics. Though the backgrounds are done in 2D, they are drawn with great care and detail. Every screen is beautiful. I actually took some screenshots of the game and used them as desktop backgrounds for a while.

The sounds are pretty good also. The music is nice and goes well with the background themes, especially in the first few localities. (My only sound grudge was when I fixed those mechanical violinists. I wished I hadn't, as the stuff they played annoyed the heck out of me. Other than that...)

As far as technical difficulties go, there was a bug, that the subtitles scrolled much slower than the people speaked, and me being a non-native english speaker, I had to go back and listen again once or twice. But for one thing, don't understand me wrong here, the vioces are done well, and in all but a couple places, the actors sounded like they really meant what they were saying, and it wasn't all cheesy, as it is in some games, where they have cheap voice actors. And also, I hear that was fixed in the patch, so be sure to download that.

But, of course, the most important thing is gameplay. The puzzles are great. Pretty challening, yet at the same time, not so much so that you have to go back to a walkthrough or spend an hour wander all over the place wondering what to do, or something. I didn't particularly like one or two of them, but the rest were very good, and, importantly, didn't look like they were taken off the wall, but rather went well with the gameplay.

Overall, I strongly recommend you play it, if you enjoy the genre.

EDIT: Oh, and of course, I, for one, am very eagerly awaiting Syberia II.

Actually I tried to play the demo of that game, but it crashed almost immediately after start. I would be interested in knowing how good the game is, though. I am also considering getting it to waste some time during the break between spring and summer classes.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

After I finish NOLF2 I'll burn Post Mortem, try it out and report back here, one game at a time now, otherwise I end up playing just ten minutes of each game and that would waste gameplay
