Mr Hanson, part of the Cottle and Austen Circus, was showing how many knives he could hurl at his partner in 60 seconds. He had been trying to emulate his world record-breaking stunt performed on National Circus Day of 120 knives thrown in two minutes. "He felt confident as he has been throwing his mother's kitchen knives since the age of 10," This Morning's website reported. Mr Hanson, the son of an elephant tamer and trapeze artist, is advertising for a new assistant. Ms Rodianova, who bears two scars from previously misdirected throws, says she wants to concentrate on her hula hoop act. Mr Hanson's previous assistant reportedly left the job after being hit in the foot - her third injury from a wayward knife. Mr Hanson said recently: "In 11 years of performing, I've only hit my assistant on five occasions."

If I were his assistant, I'd be concentrating on my hula hoop act too.
