It's simple, i colonize a single planet per systen, when is grows, i creat systen colony or systen outpost ships and ocupy the rest of the systen, the AI are dunb soo in the early game i dont care with the military, i concentrated my reserach on economic, social and biology techs areas, i develope and turn into a economic power, soo i begin to build ships and turn my research to weapons technology created a strong economy and began to take planets, ithkul i kill , anothers i carpture withou bombard, i don't like to kill civilians, i try to keep strong strategic defense points soo on a single pass systen i protect lot of planets. and your play strategy?

In the beginning of the game I immediately switch to total war. This allows me to produce colony ships about 5 times faster and the price is only double research time.

In the beginning try to get an enemy colony. Conquered civilizations, magnate or not, have the tendency to autocolonize the galaxy so it's a nice idea I think, to take advantage of that.
In early wars all you have to do is bypass the planets who have missile bases/orbitals. Just take the rest.
It's the same idea as in Civ3, they build colonies and you take them.
