	Topped Thread Idea: *THE WIRE* Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

Given the success of the Iraq war news threads, where news links are posted for everyone's convenience without commentary, why not have a similar set of threads, dealing with world news in general? Same rules -- one thread at a time, bare facts, no commentary. Everyone knows that Apolyton is the best world news site nobody's heard of, and this would enhance what we all love about it. I think it might help to spice up OT discussions and give people ideas outside their ordinary POVS.

What do you think?

It is kind of interesting, but the news would have to be relevant to all, and not just excessively regional so that only a few would be interested to know about that.

I disagree, it would be fun to hear regional news from all over the world, you get the big story's anyway on the news or papers.

It's not a must as long as it's limited to only a handful of games and genres. If the Other games section would be split up and the OTF split into a few more specific misc forums, we could broaden the spectrum. However until that I can't see that Poly would be a "must" for non TBS players.

Exactly! this would be a place to put all interesting news tidbits you find interesting (and think others would find interesting), without having to spend a new thread on them.

One thing I find so striking about the Iraq War News Threads are the number of smaller local sites I've learned about, which show points of view I never would have encountered otherwise. Sometimes, that view is even more interesting than the story being covered.

agreed , but one must see to it that the site would not become to big then and explode like a bubble , ....


but the way it is now is fine , the main thing here is "civ" , the rest turns around it , and thats what makes it so great , ....

Well, I wouldn't be able to post interesting news from my country or even my region in the world, because the sources I'd quote would be in a different language, so what's the point? And I wouldn't translate every bit of news just for your viewing pleasure, no sir.

Don't sites like Googlie offer translations? I know they probably generally suck, but it'd at least give readers an idea of what was being talked about, right?

one can get more news from a specific place in the world true this site then on some of the worlds biggest news site's , .....


since we dont have death lines , political sensitivity , elections , and other of that nasty stuff , we can look at the world with a slightly different view , ......
