The game pad.


When I tried to install a driver for a joystick in Win98 I got the Blue Screen of Death. And keep getting it whenever I try it.


My PC had an embeded sound card in it with a joystick port.

But I disabled it and got a PCI soundcard which also has a joystick port.


In the system devices I get a yellow exclamation mark for one device and I think it is the joystic port of the embeded soundcard (but I have disabled it).


Could that be the problem that causes the blue screen of death?


Also if I (*cries*) reinstall win98 is it possible that the problem will get away?


I got a nice game F16 Aggresor and I'd like to use a joystick so I don't stall so much.

I've always wonderd why someone came with the name joystick. It's sounds more like something for women if you get what I mean. Maybe it started out as a bad joke between a couple of gay coworkers...

BTW the windows dont say anything about any conflicts not even for that yellow exclamation mark device.

which makes it all the more weird.

is there a hope if i reinstall win98 or would it be a waste of time? and a hussle

wild guess....have you disabled the onboard sound in BIOS and well as device manager?

yep I have. I have disabled it both on the motherboard (with the dip switch) and in the BIOS.


But it says (in the manual and in the BIOS) only soundcard, it doesn't say joystick port, even though there is a joystick port in the embdeded soundcard.

It is very weird to have the blue screen when you simply try to load a joystick driver in the control panel....

in the device manager the embeded (=onboard) soundcard doesnt even show.

There's this yellow exclamation mark, but i dont think that's it.

windows are unable to identify what device this exclamation mark is.


I have disabled it, then tried to load the joystick driver and still i get the blue screen.

If it was the Logitech Wingman game controller, It come with a big warning not to install the included drivers on Win98 or WinME, on pain of blue screen death, you must download repkacement drivers. Furthermore, if you did do it, its hard to fix.

It's not the Logitech Wingman. It's just some plain old joystick I had and was in storage untill I acquired this game.

The blue screen comes up when I try to install the driver from the game controllers of the control panel where I choose 2 axis 2 buttons joystic.
