I notice everyone parroting off these city names, but does anyone know what the names actually mean?

Take Kuala Lumpur for example, a city name I have always be partial to because IMO it is one of the nicer sounding names for a capital city in the world - it has a magical quality, rolling sensuously of the tongue hinting of far eastern exotic delights...

So it may come as a bit of a shock when you find out that KL actually means 'Muddy Confluence'. The point where two rivers meet in the centre of town...

And no, it doesn't even look impressive...

My favourites have to be:

Ouagadougou
Reykjavik
Zanzibar

And no, I don't know what their names mean...

Well, it's not like they're allowed to do anything else...

You missed out the nearby 'Virginville', but at this rate they may have to change their name soon...

Here's a tourist photo - ignore the childish prat in the background...

Yes, that's right. A lot of things here have the name of a place. I think in most of the cases is just lack of originality.

Well, names of my region may be nice...
like "Pila", which means a saw, but it means "she drank"
as well, or "Upita", which means "drunken (woman)"...
But I like names of cities such like
Amorion, Filomelion, etc... perhaps I just like "on" at the end... hm... Szczebreszynon... doesn't that sound nice?

It is Alexios Komnenos (I guess at the start of his reign when He was 19 or so didn't have to shave yet -which suprises me very much- until his beard grew up to a monsterous size I could see in another images...).
He is said to be one of the best, but I personally think that
chrysobulla for Venetians was a mistake that costed the empire a life, so all the other things that He did right are in shadow of this one thing. Still, I have some sentiment for him... (vide Komnenai scenario)

Ethessa...
I think I heard the city was named after some city in Greece, but does it have any meaning, the name "Ethessa", I mean?

There's a city called Ethessa in Greece but I don't know if it means something... could have a distinctive meaning though considering most of the names and words usually do around here but I don't know it.
