This thread is designed to address the issue of "if worse comes to worst": namely, if someone attacks us.
Keep in mind, this is just a plan, and needs the input of the MOI and the scrutiny of the team. Just a rough candidate to make sure that we at least are somewhat prepared to deal with whatever might happen. The thread will be updated periodically when the situation facing our nation changes.
Summary:
This thread is designed to be an evolving plan to deal with the potential threat of war declared upon us by another world power that was not planned for. It will outline our response under two different circumstances: the first being if our nation was attacked this turn, and the other being that we were attacked within 5-10 turns. The plans will outline the general movement of units, the suggested modification of build queues (subject to MOI decision) and a look at the future and how we might deal with things as the conflict progresses.
Immediate Threat (This Turn):
If GCA or another power attacked us, there would be very little they could do, and even less they could accomplish by the time we could be prepared for an attack. Therefore, the short-term plans will only consider a war with CDG.
If war was declared on us this turn, things would be rather tricky. No doubt our economy would have to enter a period of full military mobilization, due to the fact that we have very few units, and none with any ability to stand up to a concerted attack. The most important issue to address if attacked this turn would be to get out as many NMs as possible before the main stack of enemy units approached. If the enemy had a stack on the way when they declared war, then things get even worse strategically.
The second priority for us would be to get an idea of when and what the enemy would be bringing to bare against us. Scouts would be diverted from wherever we could get them from (mainly BFW in the west, and possibly a Warrior from the city grid). Once we have an idea of what we would be up against, then we could plan better on how to deal with them.
If the enemy's army is relatively weak and slow in arriving, then we could muster as many NMs as we could to meet them in battle at the city of our choosing. If they are really slow in attacking, we should establish some sort of a cheap offensive force in hopes of destroying their main army before they get a chance to strike our cities.
The combination of stacked NMs and a cheap offensive force should be enough to thwart their first attack, should it arrive in around 10 turns. After their first army is defeated, we could begin peace negotiations, or we could prepare to enlarge our offensive forces to bring them, and about 1/2 of our NMs down to the enemy, and force them to terms. At this point in time, unless extreme issues arise we do not want to destroy our enemy, as he provides a good counter-balance against our rivals to the south, and we might also be viewed as "barbaric" by the other nations.
Short-Term Threat (5-10 turns):
To be continued...

Well the main thing to worry about, and that we should consider ever NOW is that we renegotiate with CDG in about 7 turns or so. We should prepare for a worst case scenario that in 7 turns, we could have a few Immortals knocking at our doors. Morris has undoutably done some scouting and they now that our only protection at the moment is warriors.
Regardless of this, your plans seem to take into account that we have some forward knowledge of a war. What if the only knowledge we have is a pile of Immortals showing up outside the border of Apolyton, right before we get a sickening email saying "Goodbye!" This is probably the worst case scenario but is something we should definitely consider and it will only lead us to being prepared for anything else.
Anyways, good job overall Trip. It is best we think about this now while we still can afford the luxury of tossing ideas around. I look forward to what others have to say of the plans and any ideas that will be put forth.
Edit: Actually now that I reread that, you do take into account that if we were attacked this turn... To clarify, we should have a contigency for a total surprise attack with no warning (and units at our border). |
If CDG showed up in our visible sight range next turn with 4 Immortals, it would be game over, and that would be that. ND vs. Lux all over again.
However, from what NYE has stated, CDG does not yet have Iron Working, which would imply A) they have to find iron before being able to build/upgrade Immortals, B) they have to link it to their city grid, C) they would need a Barracks to upgrade their Warriors (some of which would be scouting) and D) them considering building Immortals from scratch would be very tricky business.
Between these 4 factors, the MOW will assume that the likelyhood of a CDG Immortal strike into our city grid of any size to occur within 5 turns to be much less than 1%.
Also keep in mind the placement of their first 2 cities. First, the food production capability of these new cities is next to 0 (probably at +1, even at size 1). Second, the shield production capability of their empire is also probably about half of our own, considering their cities sizes will not rise above 2 without major improvements to their tiles (which would take a lot of time), and the tiles they have to work with are much worse than even our own.
For CDG to blindside us with a successful Immortal rush within the next 10 turns would be a military triumph eclipsing that of Austerlitz by leaps and bounds. If they did so, then it would be time for me to resign and us to invite whoever was in charge of their planning to lead Apolyton...

I suggest putting a Numidian down South on lookout duty, preferably one that was promoted via a quick skirmish with Barbs. The hope is that CDG will be more reluctant to attack us if we keep reminding them we've got the best Ancient age defender to aid us.

One or two NM would make them think twice; 3-4 of them would put them on edge.

Yes, I think just 1 might be enough, but not before we can finish getting him up to elite. If we go more than 1, it could make them nervous and look like we're trying to threaten them. This was one of the things that got ND very upset and prompted their invasion of Lux. |
hi ,
, if we have to start to learn that they get nervous if we move around , well , we could teach them a lesson , .....
the offensive is still the best defense , ......
lets make them nervous , who cares , maybe they dont have a big army and are nervous for that reason , ....
have a nice day
