	Why is the picture thread still open? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I know it's a special thread and all but...

A while ago, in this thread it was explained to us by Ming that threads are closed after 500 because

Considering the size of the average post in that thread, surely using the reason above it, it should be closed...

(note: I'm not saying close the thread, I'm just asking why, considering the thread nature, it is still open)

Maybe they figure the picture thread by its very nature will kill a 56k'er, so theres no point trying to keep the thread 56k-friendly.

MarkG started the thread, it is only he who is going to close it. I guess he hasn't noticed or doesn't really mind.

Thread length has no effect on how long it takes to load the thread. That depends on the individual user's thread view settings (I use 50 posts/page).

If someone is on a 56k, that person could just set the thread view setting to something lower instead... this shouldn't have any effect on how large the thread is...

Great! Then we can have a theoretical discussion if it's necessary to allow us to continue the use of Free Speech or if it's perfectly valid to close the thread. That of course ends up in a flame war and we see the usual performance of the Mingapluco Circus with the ferrets.

Why not? Not only should you start closing his threads, but you should throw in 1-day bans every so often. You know, just to keep him on his toes...
