	Torians- too cute to kill? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

I can understand wanting to take down the apes or robots- you can get mad at them. But the Torians are so cute... they look like ET.

I often find myself reluctant to screw them over... am I the only one?

Unless I decide from the beginning for a pure military-conquest game, I'm quite happy doing the peaceful coexistence thing until they think they have something to gain by making it less than peaceful. My all time favorite game of GalCiv involved a long, protracted war where I managed to build up technical superiority, and then hit the Torians hard enough to take them out of the game, the second race to go.

Torians look cuter than ET and the Asguard but they remain cute only until they attack you. I thought the Altarans were cool too until they attacked me in my latest game. Now, I'm fighting for my very life with this bozos whom I hoped to ally with.

How do you know:
(1) Their leader, Tlas, isn't a female?
(2) The concepts male and female apply to an alien species that evolved in an alien environment?

As for Altarian females:
(1) How do you know NetroMancer isn't female?
(2) How do you know they are biologically similar to us?
(3) the females are probably featured prominently in those holomovies ol' Netro is always talking about

There was an episode of Farscape (RIP) where there was some alien species that looked human but the particular members were female (although they looked male/played by male actors).

Episode ends with Crichton asking Aeron if she was a female (Aeron played by the exquisite Claudia Black ). The show never really answers this explicitly (sure Crichton has sex with "her", doesn't mean "she" is not really a "he" ...)

In the game I'm playing now, the Torians were my major trading partners, but they declared war on me.

Torians make a nice balance to those ugly aliens.

Are the Altarians supposed to be like illusionary beings, or is the idea that we share some common ancestry somehow, through the Precursors?

With "good guys" like the Torians and the Altarians, who on earth needs evil?

In my last game, it was the Altarians who were going for galatic conquest.

In my current game, the Torians are the major power who are intimidating and threatening everyone to pay up cash or techs, declaring war left and right, and absorbing star systems that were never theirs to begin with . . . all in the name of galactic peace .

I think they place more emphasis on the "Chaotic" than the "good". Just another example on how a little power brings out the evil in all of us.

In my current game the Altarians are conquering the galaxy. The Drengin were once powerfull but are being grinded down in a war with everyone.

The Torians decided to take the path of evil. The Altarians and I finished the Torians off because of this. (The Altarians and I are saintly)
