Edan, why do you believe the USSR tried to provoke a war? |
Offhand, I think it was the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing - ie, some people in power in Russia felt a mid-east war would help shift the balance of power in the region. Or, possibly, a war in and of itself wasn't needed, just the bluff of one, in order to change the balance of power - which might explain Russia's stopping Egypt from initiating Operation Dawn. Or to show that the imperialist zionist pig(tm) was an aggessor. Or it was merely part of the geopolitical game of chess the Russians had with the US.

Eli, all I did was spend 10 minutes searching. I searched for 'Israeli 7th armored brigade' and got numerous links, including the one you like. Perhaps if you search for other famous units you would get more. Anything I can do to help let me know.

One unmentioned reason [I think?] was the Arabs complete and total incompetence on the battle field (excluding Arab Legion). Lack of pay, good equipment, and most importantly in this case, motivation. Admittedly the Jews and Israel had even less equipment and salaries to give out, considering that the Arab states had oil, but they had motivation.
If the Arabs had the motivation of the Jews, they could have won it easily, because they outnumbered the Jews. However, they did not- they were not fighting for their survival and existence. If they were defeated, they could just go back to their homes, etc.

hi ,
, .....
actually the word " survival " would do more good , it was either fight or be pushed into the sea , .....
if you put an injured person in a death street he shall fight to get to the other end , .... no matter what the cost is , ......
that and the help of some old written words helps us to stand where we stand today , ....
have a nice day
