(OOC) Justino is the first King of Spain without a wife. This thread is here for each of the noble families to present their most eligible bachelorette, and Justino will eliminate them gradually until there are only a few left. In the end one will be picked as Queen and that family will, essentially, have a direct line to the throne of Spain in the future. (/OOC)
Isabella, Queen mother of Spain, has been talking for days with the other ladies of the court about how her son Justino needs to find a wife. The word has spread throughout the kingdom. Isabella, not being the sort to impose her will on the new Monarch, has requested that each family send their most eligible bachelorette to Pamplona to meet Justino and to allow him the chance to pick his new bride!
This is the first time that this sort of thing has occured in Spain, and there is much debate and gossip about how revolutionary it is, but the Queen Mother's faith and trust in the young King is great, and with Justino's burdens and the great many issues faceing him, she feels this would be a welcome decision for the young man, and one that might help his confidence.
Please bring your "of age" daughters and sisters to court to meet the Bachelor King Justino. Introduce them, discuss their qualities and charms, and post a picture if you'd like.
Let's have some fun with this idea.

My Liege, Heras Dejon has a daughter named Denise...
Name: Denise Dejon
Family History: The Dejons are a military and weaponshop family.
Training: Trained as a bowyer and a merchant.
Special Skills: How many ladies can shot hit a target (archery) at 50 paces? 
Personality: The men of the Dejon family are used to getting their way, so they are a bit presumptious and arrogant, even with their customers. So the women of the family have learned to be good mediators, between family members and sometimes between shopkeep and customer. Denise is no exception. She was born and raised in Madrid, and daughter of the last (although unofficial) male Señor Dejon - the late husband of Heras Dejon. Thus she knows what is it to lose a father (like Justino). Like most Dejons, Denise can be firm and unyielding at times, but she also employs humour and wit, which can be successful tools for disarming some of the more brutish Dejons.
Hobbies: Like her mother, Denise has an affinity for the bow. The two can often been seen practicing together at the range behind the weaponshop in the early morning hours.
Age: 20
Description: There is no getting around the fact that most Dejons are, well...big boned.  Denise does not bother with fancy clothes or makeup like most other woman. But neither is she a mess - she keeps herself clean, and her hair simple - long and straight. Her hair is practically never seen out of it's long braid, for it would mess with her archery, get in the way in the store, etc.

Full Name: Lady Isabella Katerina Calamari de Toledo
Family History: She is the daughter of Duke Iago de History Guy Calamari de Toledo, head of one of Spain's most illustrious (and undoubtedly most wealthy) families. The Calamaris are primarily merchants by trade, through they are very powerful in the Church, and even in the government itself. The long and respectable history of the family is impeccable. How can you beat the great-grandaughter of a Saint [Hernan of Madrid]? Besides, she is the grand-niece of the Queen Mother Isabella through her mother! A perfect match?
Training: In the arts, etiquette, and governing. Like all Calamaris, she knows mathematics very well, and she knows the inner workings of the commercial world. She has been taught in the finest school in Spain, the Pikesfan School of Etiquette, and is a perfect student in all the arts, including painting, poetry, writing, and the study of history.
Special Skills: Diplomacy, writing, poetry, artistry, mathematics, and all the abilities that would suit a Queen. She is also much loved in Madrid.
Personality: Like the fabled glory queens of old, she is even tempered, and wise in her own ways. She is devoted to her family, and as Queen would show such devotion for her king and her people, as well as children (her great ambition is to be a good mother). The only thing I'd have problems with are her appetites for fine clothing, and books. She does spend some time with her head in the clouds because of these books...and she likes to spend time in the bath as well. Too long. I don't know...these women of today!
Hobbies: Reading. She likes to write poetry as well, and she probably dabbles in writing literature. She likes to spend time in the museums as well. I'm afraid she's rather more interested in the classics than anything else, and thus doesn't quite have the athletic abilities of Senor Dejon's daughter, which is a shame. But I suppose I can buy her some marble weights, or something. Archery! No...wait...she might hit the dog by accident...
Age: 23.
Description: She's tall, pale in complexion, with long dirty blonde hair, and great blue eyes, with full lips...a good frame as well. Quite the little head turner. In fact, look at the population of Toledo. That girl there is her mother, of whom she is the mirror image.

Full Name: Ricarda Rosaria Tacticus
Bio: Nephew of Royal Treasurer Antonio Tacticus, via his brother Manuel Calderon Tacticus. She showed an unusual interest in organization from when she was a child, almost obsessively keeping everything in her life in order as far as possible. She became Antonio's unofficial assistant with the family finances at the age of fourteen, and proved very competent at it; she also wrote a great deal of excellent poetry and other literature.
Special skills: Ricarda's main talents lie in accounting (and household management generally), poetry and writing, and is also very well read.
Personality: Somewhat fiery and exceedingly impatient with unnecessary delay. She always wants things done and orders obeyed in the shortest possible time, without dawdling or inneficiency, and has a tendency to lose her temper quite easily. Fortunately she's also good at restraining herself; otherwise she would be quite a menace to whatever crockery happened to be nearby. Having said that, she is very pleasant when everything is orderly, and is good enough at focussing on things to ignore trivialities when she's doing something more important.
Interests: Apart from doing paperwork and managing things, Ricarda's main interests are poetry and literature, art (although she doesn't paint very well, she's very interested in the work of those who can), and history, of which she is a keen student and on which she has written enough to fill several books. She also likes to run.

I write to you on behalf of my beautiful daughter. It has been reported that the King wishes to get married in the near future. The joining of our families would be the greatest happening in all of Spain and an honor that would know no seconds. I'm sorry to bother you with my chatter, let me tell you about my daughter, The Compassionate One.
I have but one eligible daughter that would have your heart belong to her. Her name is Penelope. She is truly a darling; but what father would not say that about his daughter? Therefore, it is up to you, my King, to decide what qualities she has and what they mean to you.
Some may fault for her unwavering attitude of compassion and care she shows to even the common beggar in the streets of Madrid. Why sire, she even risked her life in the recent outbreak of the Plague in Madrid; she saw too it personally that a whole orphanage was moved to Pamplona to ensure that the Plague did not spread to those poor dear children. All throughout our land Penelope is known for her caring heart.
Although her love for Spain and her people runs deep, I'm afraid that it runs even deeper for you my King. The reason this frightens me is that Penelope's love knows no bounds and I fear that she will be crushed if you were to choose another Bride besides her. Penelope has secretly followed your ascension to the throne and has watch you administer Spain’s affairs with the same compassion and caring that she holds to be very important in life. She also knows that Spain has her enemies and that they need to be treated as such because they do not care for their people in the same way the Spain care's for their own.
Although she was slightly embarrassed at first by my finding a poem she has written about you; she has since asked that I relay it to you in hopes that her true feelings can be consummated with the one she loves.

NAME: Penelope "The Compassionate One" Libre; The moniker has been chosen by her many grateful friends and acquaintances. I do believe it is fitting.
FAMILY HISTORY: The Libre family history is fairly long; records exist back for many generations. We are a family of Philanthropists. Our family was blessed many eon's ago by gold that was found near our ancestral village. This village has, since its inception, been associated with the Libre family name. Our village has contributed to many worth while causes all across the lands of Spain, paying particular attention to the coffer's to the great line of Kings carrying the Togas name.
We have never sought to grow the village beyond our own family member's and those that marry into our family, but Penelope has brought about change recently. Penelope wanted to increase our family’s involvement in Spain’s domestic affairs purely for the benefit of the people and the crown in turn since a happy and healthy people produce for more goods for Spain. She's been traveling through Spain’s lands and making mention of our fine village and inviting those that are less fortunate than other's but are also willing to work for a better standard of living than they were previously accustomed to. Due to this influx we've seen some growth in the past few years. Don't be surprised, my King, if Penelope doesn't lobby for "Official City" status of our ballooning village in the near future.
TRAINING: Penelope learned from a very young age, as all members of the Libre family do, that you must respect other's before you should expect to be respected. Formal training that included Dinning and Customary Etiquette was an integral part of her entire young life. Penelope was purposely groomed to be the "Woman behind the Man." Great things for her, was always seen by our family 'ere the day she was born. And thusly she was prepared fully for it.
PERSONALITY: I'm not sure what I could say about Penelope that hasn't already made clear to you the type of person she is. She is truly wondrous, to even her family who has very high expectations. She has surpassed all that our family could have hoped for; for she is a fine compassionate lady of Spain.
HOBBIES: She like's to garden in any time she has to spare. In her travelings through Spain she has shown villagers how to better plant their gardens for a better yield and tastier fruit. She loves to help people the Spain in this way. When at home, she is constantly 'tinkering' around in our families garden, planting new things or trying new ideas for irrigating. Penelope is particularly fond on one Rose bush; she often goes there to write and pray.
DESCRIPTION: I've asked a dear young man of my village to provide a description of young Penelope for you, my King. As her father, providing such descriptions is beyond what I would consider decent; I hope you understand. Penelope will be 24 this spring. The detailed description from this young man follows; you will note that he once was in love with her, but has since found love in the place of another woman's heart. It was all too easy for him to see that it was another that Penelope had loved. He begrudgingly let her go, but his love can oft be heard in his voice when mention of her is made. Also of note is that although this young man's description is a little racy, I can assure you that my daughters, and thus my families, honor is indeed intact.

Though until recently I claimed no children other than my legitimate son, the brothels of Pamplona are full of young girls who have fallen on hard times and, coincidentally, look like they could have been my daughters... in another life of course; mrs._maser would not look kindly on such a trangression of faithfulness to her... so keep yer d@mn mouths shut  !
Anyway, since it has been a full turn ago and, by my reckoning, 20 years since our good monarch decreed that the eligible, noble daughters of España step forward and be judged, I took it upon myself (and it was a tough job ) to father a daughter I could actually give my name to.
Without further ado, I present Isabelladonna_maser. At 19 years old, she is in full-flower and a lovely creature, if I do say so myself, ...and, not unlike Rappaccini's daughter in the story of the same name, Isabelladonna is as deadly as they come.
Far from being just a pretty face, she is multitalented as well. In keeping with the knowledge that she was to be groomed for one purpose and one purpose only, she has been taught to lead from an early age (which has come in handy on several occassions when I was too inebriated to fulfill my public duties as governor. I remember one time in particular when she was just seven years of age...  ...but I'm getting away from the subject).
Furthermore, she is now well-versed in the fine arts... namely the arts of international intrigue and covert assassination. While other girls were studying poetry and music, she was busily studying techniques to kill world statesmen and dignitaries. I admit her ethics and morals may be beyond recovery, but it was a deliberate choice I had to make to ensure she would not feel the twinge of guilt when I asked her to whack... umm, nevermind.

What kind of questions are these? With these, he'll pick whoever demonstrates the most ego, salesmanship and willingness to be a heffer, suckling as many as possible!

1) What is your finest quality?
To spot BS. Whether from my macho brothers, belligerent customers, or other, unexpected sources.
2) How would you serve the people of Spain if you were their Queen?
Since I have yet to actually meet the King, and he is already commanding that I answer these questions, I suspect that I wouldn't have a great deal of say in the matter, and would be commanded about like any other servant of Spain.
If I could serve Spain how I wished, and could affect change, I might try any number of things that I cannot think of off the top of my head. Spain is wonderful, but there is always room for improvement. Some of our cities have buildings that others lack. Sometimes there is a considerable delay before new cities commence trading the standards luxuries of Spain. Situations like these should be eliminated or improved. If I had the power, I would see that such inequities are solved, wherever possible and prudent.
3) How many children would you have and what would their names be?
Only God himself knows the answer to this question. I look forward to having children, as many as the Good Lord sees fit. However, I will not become a house-ridden nanny that sees her husband once every nine months. As for names, I have not thought about it, and will not, until the magical event(s). Children are the product of the hearts of two people, and their naming should also come from the hearts of those people - spontaneously, not planned.

Oh dear. I do hope Isabelladona is not threatening the Holy Mother Church and her leaders.
As I remember, though, Caligula had some good qualities. For example, he broke a lot of idols. But he then replaced them with pictures of himself as god...so scratch that one. Perhaps there is a very slim chance that he might have been saved, though. But I doubt it. In fact, scratch that too.
Philip is a lovely name, actually. But I rather prefer Charles! Yes, or James, after the great Santiago! How about Hernan, after Spain's first saint? A lot of good Saint's names floating about.

Dear King, as you may know, I have a sister,17 springs already, most beautifull and nice, but she refuses to come here and answer. well, I am sorry, but maybe I can convince her to come here. She says she is in love with another boy form one of the lords, but since when does she knows what her heart tells her?
