The company I work for started this program that is suppose to help the different departments work together better. About a month ago I attended one of the meetings; twon hours of people telling me how hard their job is, and what they are doing to make their own lives easier... Nothing about working with, or improving relations with other departments. I thought I had the intended jist of the meeting wrong, so I inquired with the developers of the program, and they told me that I had it right. When I asked them if they could name me three things in that 2 hours of whining that actually accomplished the intention of the meeting they were left stupified. I then asked them to reform the program before inviting me to another worthless meeting.
The UN does the same thing, they sit around and whine about all the issues in the world that bother them, but rarely take a stance, or do anything, unless it directly affects their own country. As we all know 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions'.
A few, select companies actually do anything besides sit around and complain.
Besides, who in their right mind would put Libya in charge of the human rights commision? What's next, France as head of the Defense commision... oh, wait!

I have know the UN sucks for years now. If the UN was really any good they would have been able to avoid war in Iraq. But the UN sucks, so what can you do.

I am sorry, but besides being racists, this is absurdly STUPID! Koffi Annan got his position because he was an able Bureaucrat for many decades and he was elcted becuase he comes form a non-veto state (Ghana, i believe) |
Not entirely true. He got the job at least in part because he's an African and it was Africa's turn to run the world. There's a lot of the UN that's run on the basis of alphabetical or regional rotation, which is where we get Iran and Iraq as co-chairs of the disarmament comittee.

The fundamental irony of the UN is that it is a democratic, egalitarian organization made up of a large number nations that are themselves neither democratic nor egalitarian. Nations who don't support freedom, democracy and the rule of law at home have no business legislating such to others. Such nations are akin to the pious, church-going pillar of the community who beats his wife and children at home.
So, yes, the UN sucks.
