I see approval voting ballots -- ones where you check off all the candidates you like -- and cheaper universities in the close future. Expansion of universal healthcare and welfare would be nice, but is currently fiscally unfeasible.

No, a scenario of that kind of society evolving. All of us tried to present future governments and the way they would evolve. It's meaningless without the way you predict we'd get to a certain society.

Major terracts occur all over the country. The republicans , with the help of the democrats, pass 5 pieces of legislature called Pat II, Pat III, Pat IV, Pat V, and Pat VI. Combined, they eliminate all the rights of the people of America. The Dem-Reps also send US soldiers everywhere across the world to fight terrorism and to enact regime change.

Protests at home are illegal and everyone gets jailed as a traitor.

In the next election, the libertarian party takes all the votes and wins. They then repreal all the Pat acts, bring home the US troops, open up the market, cut military spending, sell land to private individuals to help protect the environment, cut pollution using the tried and true market (using credits)

EVeryone would then own assult rifles, because everyone knows that an armed citizenry is the best way to protect the people from the government. The Dem-Reps stage a coup, but all the good citizens open fire with their machine guns, wiping out those who dare assult our civil liberties. It'll be just like the wild west.

The world will become like star trek. There is no money, you are completly taken care of. You have freedom. And you work to "Improve yourself".

The world becomes like the book 1984. Very oppressive and controlling government.

My prediction:
If humanity continues going this way the world is and will be like this:

-1991-2050:
Some countries (USA comes to my mind) will turn into some kind of neo-fascist like propaganda governments. This governments will control practically all the media on the world and they will say that they are defending democracy and free-speech and the presidents of these countries will be ''democratically'' elected by making fraud sp??? (cheating). Social differences will increase as well as global pollution. Multi-national enterprises will be totally allied with the fraudulent presidents and with the free market economies they will be free to exploit people and continue pollution. Smaller countries will be totally controlled by the bigger ones because they have and will have puppet governments (implanting dictators, changing regimes). Globalization will try to impose uniformism and eliminate country's cultures to let only one culture in the world.
Against all this in some countries there will be socialist revolutions or socialist/nationalist governments will be democratically elected. this governments will try to recover their countrie's culture and will form regional economic trade agreements in opocision to globalysation (EU, Mercosur, etc.)
2050-2070:
The world will starting again to divide itself into pro-US and Globalyzation and Pro-nationalsm and pluralism. And finally the 3rd world war will erupt but i can't guess who'll be it's winner.

Our future lies in space. The US is a great example of my idea. Human societies can only flourish in a state of expansion, after the frontier closed, the US became stagnant, like Europe. Expansion creates a shortage of labor and a lot of pragmatism, Increasing wages and tearing away of old traditions. A populated Mars, for example, will give new ideas to Earth like the US gave Europe in the 1800's. Our place in the stars, however, can only be earned if we have a single world government.

im thinking the world will evolve into regional states (europe, asia, america(both continents) africa and australia) germany will go back to its master race theory and lead europe and asia to war, australia will come in on the european side, africa will attack europe, america will remain isolationist
and become stagnant, europe and australia will defeat asia, but not without great costs and will join together with asia as the connection, and begin a space colonization program, and with the founding of a few colonies, america will follow suit, and a war will erupt, africa will again be on the american side and will be defeated, but the europeans wont cary the war to america. america will go soilent green style and collapse and out of it will arise a non-hidden facist government, but will be a populare movement, which will take over asia away from european control, with this lik severed, australia will become independant and go on a war of reconquest to take asia, then will take south america, north america will sue for peace then the australians in the space colonie will revolt against the europeans, but after sending reinforcements to help the space war, both earth states will be cripled and america will take all of earth but terrorists will be prevalent and eurrope will no longer be a geografical position, it will be a space nation, after that, the onli thing i could think of is hostile aliens coming and forcing us to all come together to survive, this will all take anywhere from 70 to 700yrs i think

Probably not much different, relatively speaking..

Up to 2050s-60s: ...many places (Africa, South America, Middle East) will still be backward, some (European Union?) will have an advanced mixture of moderate-strong socialism/ "friendly" capitalism (like that of current Scandinavian states?).

The U.S. will be somewhere on its usual center-left/right cycle, according to whichever administration holds power at the moment...of course, it will still be seen as imperialist by...umm...3/4 of the world's population?

Post-2050s-60s: No freaking idea...
