ND will do neither until they have their UU.
ND is woried about GoW AND RP; they will be splitting their forces no doubt to both fronts as a precaution.
We have two choices REX or WAR; REX gives us the best odds right now, at least until GoW and RP can team up on ND.
We should plan that action before ND gets it's UU and after GoW gets theirs. GoW is currently researching Chivalry( I would guess 15-20 turns). ND still doesn't have Fuedalism, though they could buy it from GS, but I think they are loathe to help GS out in any way.
GoW is very much for a Combined offensive against ND in the future. We should continue a slow-moderate buildup of military but not to the point of hurting our REX. You throw in a few Military units in between Settler's and Domestic buildings.
I think we are safe on the Northern front near Zaragoza and Santiago. ND would have to have 3 times as many Swordsmen to take either city as we do in those cities combined counting the stack that lies between the two cities as well.
Having them be "average" to us just means that we don't have an excessive amount of units compared to them. Excessive units, unless used for war, just drain the economy. Let's maintain the level of readiness we have whne compared to them, concentrate on building our infrastructure. Besides, when we get Feudalism from GoW, which could be very soon (4 turns at latest, IIRC), our Military readiness condition will spike.

This is also my concern. Our military is not so good as it used to be in the ancient times. That means that we depend less on ourselves and more on diplomatic talkings and convincing GoW to side us. And you know how difficult is to convince GoW about anything. The recent map negotiations are a prove of that. I used to think that these warmongers acted foolishly, but now I'm sure they act just randomly.
Is not that I don't trust our diplomats, but an strong army always help in negotiations, and makes for a good insurance if the worst case arrived.

I agree. The key is to develop Spain equally, not falling on one side or other. However, this is much more easier to say than to achieve, but I'm confident that we'll be able to do it together.

My Lord, King, and Master,
As of now, Toledo's production is very high indeed. In three turns, my masons shall be finished with the stained glass windows of Sts. Crispin and Iago, and will be ready for a new task. I promise you, Lord King, give me the word, and I shall order my blacksmiths to hammer out the sword and the spear and the iron fist of the gauntlet to put on my Swordsmen.
Sir, if you can provide Feudalism by the time the church is completed, we shall begin work on some Medieval Infantrymen, if you so desire.
I await your orders.
Duke Iago Calamari de Toledo
