Ooh, there's a whole lot of rare resources in this game:

Aluminum
Increases speed of aircraft while reducing their cost.

Amber
Increases sell costs and decreases buy costs at the Market (you buy and sell resources to correct shortage and exploit surplus).

Bison
Granary Research costs reduced.

Citrus
Ships at sea heal automatically.

Coal
Reduces the price of everything that costs Timber .

Copper
Factory and Dock units receive increased hit points.

Cotton
Barracks, Stable, and Dock production times reduced.

Diamonds
Commerce limit increased.

Dye
Cost of Civic research reduced.

Fish
A rare food resource. Dispatch Fishermen from the Dock; boost your Food production without building more Cities to hold more Farms.

Fur
Cost of Military technology research reduced.

Gems
National borders increased.

Horses
Cost of Stable units decreased.

Marble
Cost to build Wonders reduced.

Obsidian
Archers, Towers, Forts, and Cities gain attack power.

Papyrus
Cost of Science research reduced.

Peacocks
Population limit increased.

Relics
Reduces research and upgrade times.

Rubber
Cost of Auto Plant units reduced.

Salt
Cost of Barracks units reduced.

Silk
Cost of Commerce research reduced.

Age advancement cost reduced.

Do I miss something? What is the connection of the citrus and the ship repear?

A lot of the associated benefits seem unusual, to say the least. If you don't like it, I wonder if you'll eventually be able to mod it so it seems more realistic...

Regardless, I have the utmost faith in BR & co., so if he says Fur reduces the cost of Military tech, I'll swallow it (within the context of the game).

It isn't that hard to imagine how an army could use fur and hides. They need clothing, tents, saddles, boots, etc. I think they did a pretty good job with the resources.

Does anyone know if these resourses are dependant on the 'age' you are in? I know oil isn't revealed until later in the game, and I would guess that something like Uranium isn't found until you can use it( have researched nukes). I didn't pay attention.

alu and uranium didnt appear in one of my games until late ages.

I'm not too sure tho.

Some of them are aribitrary - kind of like the tech-unit relationships in some RTS games. Presumably in more for "gamey" reasons than realism.

Some are straightforward.

But Citrus for ship healing - that is like way cool
