Hi peeps, hope you can help me out here, trying to create task forces, I.e. armada's etc, but everytime i try to create them, it' tell's me that I dont have enough mission ships. This is strating to drive me mad, so can somebody please tell me what ships are classed as mission ships.......... ??? so I can build a few then fight back and kick some ass.........
As it stands, I have loads of deadnaughts, Lancers, Corvette's, Scout Ships, troop Ships............ just dont know how or which ships are classified as mission ships........
Cheers,
Ribuck.

Everything depends on ship classification. Ship classification is set in the ship design. Ship classification of an existing ship cannot be modified again. Ship classification determines AI fighting behaviour: recon ships with great weapons will flee from the enemy. And it determines fleet building: a class recon ship with nukes is not counted as a mission ship in an IF squad.
The class of mission ships must always match the class of task force
Escortes must be SR, LR or IF
Pickets must be recon

It also depends on the size of the Fleet, how many mission ships and Escorts and Pickets you need to be able to build a fleet.
For example a simple detachment need just one mission ship to be built, whereas larger sizes need much more and from a certain size on must also have a minimum number of Ships in the Escort and/or Picket Ring

If you put them into the Escort Box, the Ships are counted towards your needed Escort - Ships, i.e. if you need 2 Escorts to build the fleet, and put 2 SR-Ships into the Escort-Box this condition is fulfilled.
If you put them into the Mission-Box and the Fleet you build isnīt of the SR-Type, the SR-Ships donīt count towards your Number of Mission-Ships, cos only Ships with the same Mission Type as the Fleet do so.
The Behavior of the ships however AFAIK doesnīt change. It is, regardless of wether you put them into the Mission-Box or into the Escort Box, the ships will show the same behavior and attack Missiles, Fighters and Ships within Range.
Only the Position within the Fleet will be an other one, meaning that the SHips will be at the core of the Fleet if put into the Mission box and being further away from the core of the fleet if put into the escort box

The type of fleet you make determines which kind of ships are considered "mission" ships.
Therefore, if you create a SR armada or squadron or any other SR fleet, all SR ships are considered mission ships.
Depending on the size of the fleet you are about to create, you need certain number of mission ships; for armadas is 6.

Get a jump on ECM/ECCM tech, then form up smaller task forces for harassment and ship hunter/killer missions, earlier in the game, and use several of those task forces independently to prune your enemies' fleets.
