	The Square Brackets of Dan[iel]Q[uick] Enter the AD-FREE zone

They really seem to be out of control in the latest column. I'm sure that any writer appreciates an editor who doesn't mess around with their copy, but it would be far easier on the eye if you simply converted "Civ" to "Civilization" rather than "Civ[ilization]".

Now, I certainly don't intend this as a criticism on our hard-working and reclusive site co-owner. However, am I the only person who finds news posts and columns rather harder to read with (often uneccessary IMHO) square brackets all over the place?

The only problem with it is that, while grammatically correct, it feels to me like it's over-used. It just makes things harder to read IMHO. It's not a big deal.

Because if dozens of other people would prefer a change then Dan might consider altering his style. That's what the poll is for.

Dan certainly doesn't have to abide by the poll, he can do whatever he wants. Since this is the correct forum for user feedback I thought I would mention it. If the mods think this thread is pointless they can (and will) delete it.

P.S. I have modified the latest column in question as per the usage concern of the square brackets. In hindsight I admit I was a little overzelous in my attention to detail.
P.S.S. I appreciate a separate thread being created for this discussion as opposed to having it in the thread on the column in question itself -- that thread is indeed for commentary on the column's content.

I didn't notice the brackets, and I am very content with DanQ's editing on my text. It is much more readable than in the original thread now
