does it has good diplomacy and peacetime gameplay? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

does it has good diplomacy and peacetime gameplay? This are the 2 things quite every rts game lacks and it is the reason why i don't really like them.

I don't want to command a collection of units, I want to command a nation, a nation is much more then war.

This is one of RoN's major attractions for me. Non-military research and development clearly contribute to the strength and prosperity of your nation. In fact, one way to play the game is "Tech Race," which allows no fighting at all - first nation to reach the Information Age wins.

RoN features lots of settings and options. You can play it as one long war or as something much closer to Civ.

come on people, in most RTS (save M:TW), the player is a general, only a command of the state

From what I have heard, it looks like RoN does more than any other rts I have seen to be building cities as opposed to military outposts and commanding a nation as well as an army, but it is still primarily a combat-centered game.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Uh, I don't know what game some of you are playing, but RON has virtually NO diplomacy. In fact, it has almost exactly the same amount of diplomacy as Age of Empire does, which wasn't even worth using.

I noticed that some people here were kind of hoping for a SMAC / Civ type of diplomacy model, and I can tell you right now that you will be endlessly disappointed if that's what you are expecting.

In fact, RoN has very little SMAC / Civ type of gameplay, if any. This is an RTS game with very few new gameplay mechanics. I would even call anything "new" in this game. In fact, the borders about the only real nice addition to the RTS genre, and that's about it. Everything else has been done 10 times before.

Not only that, but they haven't improved on any of the old RTS staple, like waypoints, queuing, AI, etc. It's all the same old stuff we've seen since Age of Empire....with borders. That's it.

Come on, get out of your cave and take a look at the game . While you absolutely can play it exactly the way you played AoE, it's not that. There's no SMAC diplomacy model, but there is, damnit, at least peaceful research and peaceful times!

it's far too easy to do both though, ie researching both paths at once.

as for the sheer diplomacy, it's better than AoE, but still lacking.

it essentially boils down to threats, alliances, and trade, and i've never seen the AI trade.

i find myself staying mostly peaceful until the early gunpodwer age, unless someome declares war on me, so i grab up a lot of the comemrce / civics techs, while staying not too far behind with military. then once i have all the civics techs up to teh gunpodwer age level stuff, i can boom my military and techs like crazy. i usually have some insane research rate, and several libraries, so i essentially get an age of techs in one fell swoop.

Far too easy to research both ways? I don't think so, not when some angry camper is attacking you every moment he can.

There is diplomacy, but it's understandable not as much as SMAC. This is RTS, not Civ, but it's still fantastic. I just was getting bored of zero diplomacy for RTS, where you are at war from minute one and remain so all the time. Declaring war and signing peace is new.

I can easily research the war and non war techs at the same time, is that i meant. there's no real penality other than the economic strain.

Increase Your PM Length

Btw, If you wanna play a good diplomacy/ peacetime strategy game try Galactic Civilizations. I'm not a fanboy or anything but I just have to admit that this is an extraordinary game for that kind of game style. And believe me, I've played a lot of strategy games. I've never ever run into such an outstanding AI when it comes to diplomacy & strategy. Easy to learn but hard to master.

I've have to warn tough, graphics are outdated and it has virtually no tactical military. However, it plays very well.

I'm looking forward to RoN though, AI is supposed to be good, hopefully also on a strategic level like Galciv.
