RON - SMG Civil War features? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

IIUC most people have been comparing RON to AOE, EE, Civ, and SMAC.

Looking at a list of features (the EE vs RON comparison) I saw mention of unit facing and flanking, and the use of generals to do various things, and the use of hidden troops for sneak attacks. It occurred to me that these are features Reynolds used in the SM Civil war games. (they're not revolutionary in wargaming, but the Civil war games introduced them into real time, where theyve been influential)

Has anyone noticed or discussed any other SM Civil War game influences on RON?

That is an interesting question. It is one that I have thought of when I saw the first screenshots of RoN last year.

The unit formations in SMG would be a welcome feature in RoN. I liked how the units got bonuses for mutual support and when attacking enemy flanks and rear. IIRC though, you could offset the negatives of being flank attacked by placing a leader behind the unit in question.

Can anyone who has played the beta confirm that these features are in RoN?

although RoN has unit formations i find they don't stay in those formations while fighting, so they are, for all intents and purposes, worthless.

What you need is formations that inherintly give the units a bonus against a specific enemy formation/unit. As in other civil war games and in MTW
