Welcome in the first monastery, a place for devotion and discussion of catholic concepts and ideas.
In this place any priest, Benedictinian monks* or Benedictian frair** is alowed to propose any idea concerning the Church as institution, the concept of catholicism, the christian religion and any other things related to the christian, catholic religion.
People will not be punished for things they state here as long as they only propose their ideas and do not preach them.
Preaching ideas is only allowed if these ideas are approved by the pope as true.
The inquisition is allowed to deal with people who do not obey to this.
I am looking for a priest who is not a cardinal or wishes to resign from cardinalhood, to become abbot. The task of the abbot is to lead the discussion here and prevent spam. It is the abbot who brings people that preach unapproved ideas before the inquisition.
If you do not agree with the abbot or the ideas generally proposed in here, feel free to found your own abbey as long as you ask approval from the pope.
* Benedictinian monks are ordained members of the Benedictinian order, they are in fact priests. A monk has like all priests the right to preach, while friars don't have that right. Monks can, like friars only be member of one order at the moment.
** Frairs are members of the monastery who are not ordained. [ooc]If your chartacter is not part of the clergy (crusaders are also not part of the clergy unless they have occasionally been ordained, like Nuclear Winter), create a new character who is frair of the Benedictinian order. Your character doesn't need to be ordained by a cardinal. This is needed because I have stated that only frairs, monks and priests have access.
In case people will found new orders, you have to create more characters. A frair or monk can not be mamber of more than one order.
The idea of multiple monasteries with different orders is like political parties that we will have lateron in this game. You are but member of one.[/ooc]

Your Holiness, Your Holiness, a moment, I beg you...
(Brother Colomba runs over, clutching a rosary in one hand, and a big fat letter in the other with a large seal from the Archbishop of all Spain)
My Uncle, the Archbishop of Spain, asks me to ask you here about Article II of the Laws of the Priest in the Canon Law. He made a suggestion to you at the Curia on an addition he wishes to be made, but nothing was acted upon it.
He wishes me to convey to you that it has always been the teaching of the Church [ooc]at least, not the Catholic Church[/ooc] that priests are married to the Church, and cannot be married to another. Like so as Christ is married to the Church, so they too are married to the Church. This should be noted, rather than "for love alone should be given to Christ". Of course a priest will have a love for his family and his good friends. What you mean is carnal love, and to substitute that would be rather unfortunate. Thus, the Archbishop's suggestion is perhaps most prudent and, may I say, accurate.
Secondly, I wish to address Cardinal Winterus's suggestion in the same matter about Mary Magdalene. What he says in an utter falsehood, and cannot be backed up by any word in scripture. Maybe it can be by a heretical song-writer by the name of Andraes Lloydaeus Webberinus, or a strange theatrical director named Martinin Scorcesus, but certainly not by scripture. May I also suggest that the Inquisition go look for those two heretics to stop their false notions?

I didn't answer it yet because I wanted move the discussion to here instead of there. I shall take a closer look at it.

Perhaps the Archbishop and Lord Winterius can take a closer look at it and we can all discuss it in here. The matter about Mary Magdalene is a difficicult one and I don't want to make a decision with one advise only. What do the monks and frairs, who study the Bible daily, think about it?
Am I right if this is a new monasterial order?

Your Holiness, I thank you,
Being a reader of the Bible daily, and having written the words down many times over in my copies for the monastery, I can say that without a doubt there is no such reference anywhere in Scripture. If the Essenes have said such, then that is just them. They are heretics anyway, and the Inquistion is asking them to speak up for what their basis is. They have none.
Your Holiness, I have a particular devotion to the Sacred Heart of Christ, as my uncle, the Archbishop has for Saint Hernan de Calamari. It is not a new order.
Brother Riqui,
As His Holiness says, we are not assisting the heretics and devil-worshipers (such as are to be found not only in Persia but above us in Arabia), but we are leading a fallen country back to the true faith. Our Coptic brothers are being persecuted by the pagans, and we must force a turn in policy so that the leaders may recognize our Christian brothers.

(the cry to step aside for the Archbishop of all Spain is sounded...)
Your Holiness,
(cough, cough)
Might I be so bold as to suggest that you refer to Senor Nuclearius Winterus's very interesting suggestion in the Spanish Army barracks about the idea of an army built for the Most Holy Church?
The Sword of God, he suggests, be the force directly under the control of Your Holiness, the Pope of the See of Peter, for the protection of the Holy Mother Church against heresy and invasion. If cause for crusade is found, then such an army (or at least the offensive troops of that army) will be sent abroad along with the Spanish forces to attack the heretical country that denies the truth of Christ.
The Sword of God will consist mainly of pikemen and defensive forces, including the elite troops, the Swiss Guards. Of course, for the crusades, a group of knights and conquistadors will be raised for attack along with the Spanish troops under the blessing of Your Holiness.
It seems to me that it is a good suggestion, and once Spain has built its troops up a bit more, work on recruitment might begin?
I suggest also that, if this undertaking is to be giving Your Blessing, you appoint a head of this army.

Well, there could be several ways of going about this. My suggestions are simply the simplest ones.
Firstly, we ask the King to sell Monotheism to those civilizations that do not have it. With the Gospel in their hands, some are bound to join this religion. It is my hope that the Voxians learn of it soon and put aside their devilry.
Secondly, we appoint the diplomats Missionary Bishops. As missionary bishops, they will have a more pressing role in foreign matters then before, setting up dioceses in foreign lands and appointing bishops from the foreigners. These missionary bishops must always preach the Gospel as well as do the work of diplomacy.
Thirdly, we must make alliances based on religion. [ooc]I'm thinking Charlemange here.[/ooc] If our country defeats another in war, not an entire defeat but one that would be something of a blow to the enemy, a term in the peace treaty would be the conversion to Christianity of the leader of that country, and the conversion of his people to Christianity. Also, we wish to see our allies abroad become Christian, and so we should form treaties in future with the idea of converting them, as well as for our government's benefits.
I suspect I'll think of more later.
Cardinal Winterus is now the first missionary bishop, and he shall depart for Persia. He is to establish a mission church in the capital, and appoint any friends in that country missionaries after baptizing them. So it will be. These missionaries shall then be sent out among the foreign marketplaces [ooc]or forums...[/ooc] to preach the Gospel.

My brother has left for persia already. He insisted that we kept our missionary work quiet until(if) Persia was converted. I don´t know why, but I believe it has something to do with some strange concept of ´´Crusade´´he has been talking about...

Then I am going to write him a letter. If there are problems at least I have to know of them, to be able to give him all the support I can give. There is of course the danger to get killed by pagans and I don't want to let that happen to the wise Bishop Winterius.
quote: A letter from Pope Aidun I to Bishop Winterius in Persia.
Dear monsignor Winterius,
The news has come to me that you have set sail to Persia to convert the Persians to christianity. This goal is not without any danger, as you must have realized yourself, before you departed. I want to keep contact on a regular basis so that I know of what is happening in the north of the known world.
At the same time of your departure, the discussion has risen to open the doors of the Vatican to the world, something I encourage and would like to establish. Archbishop Calamari has advised me and I will include some phrases of the speech he held in de Abbey of St. Benedictus in this letter:
"Firstly, we ask the King to sell Monotheism to those civilizations that do not have it"
"Secondly, we appoint the diplomats Missionary Bishops. As missionary bishops, they will have a more pressing role in foreign matters then before, setting up dioceses in foreign lands and appointing bishops from the foreigners"
"Thirdly, we must make alliances based on religion."
Your brother has come to me, however, and told me that you had told him that you insist that our missionary work is kept quiet until Persia is converted or the mission fails. I would like to know from you why you insist on this. I don't want to bring you in trouble by setting up the institutions of the Church.
Please send me a letter as soon as this letter arrives.
I shall think of you in my prayers.
I wish you the strength and wisdom to fulfil this task.
May the grace of the almighty God fall upon you.
With kindest regards,
Pope Aidun I

Your Holiness,
Wise words. May God bless us in our endeavors. If he is martyred, the Spanish government must then take over for the assassination or rebuttal of a Spanish diplomat.
A suggestion: Proclaim the King 'Defender of the Faith'. He will look after the Church as favored King, the only really recognizable ruler.
I trust that all shall go well.
Nuclearis,
That is, regretably, the other factor here for conversion. Crusade. All wars against heathens should be designated as such, and a term of surrender must be conversion to the One True Faith. This may be the less pleasant method, of course, but provided Spain's armies are up to the task, it works. I sincerely hope we don't have to go to such lengths.

So I will, Brother de la Civ.
Brother Colomba History Guy Calamari of the Sacred Heart
--
Your Holiness,
We must be militant. I do not mean that we should conquer the word through deeds, but through words. We should see that Monotheism is sold to all civilizations, and that our Ambassadors may double as Bishops to proclaim the Gospel abroad. They must establish dioceses and missions, and the word must be proclaimed to all mankind. We must use politics, I fear, if we wish to be successful in saving all mankind from the Devil.
I do think that a Crusade is necessary. The Egyptians might need to be attacked in order to save the Coptic Church there. However, our government might have much trouble in doing so, and perhaps it would be an unfortunate affair if we did. Instead, I suggest gearing our crusading efforts towards Arabia, the real threat. There is a religion there that I cannot bear to speak of, and it is a foul one. Nothing glorifies the Devil so much as the evil way it is practised. One day Arabia will be strong enough to conquer us, and that day fast approaches. Unless we can buy Feudalism soon, we may be unable to stop their attacks. But we must hold an advantage through our troops, and must seize the day whenever we have a chance. One day, that apocalyptic battle will come, and when it does, Spain and the Church must be ready for it.
I suggest militant Christianity, not through swords and spears, but through concerted maneuvers of our diplomats to establish missions abroad. It is only when the Church is directly threatened that I suggest a crusade be called.
Cardinal Calamari
P.S., please do write up the laws of Inquistion at the earliest opportunity.
