Some kids once started taking the piss out of me for having a stutter. I was rather confused, considering I neither have a stutter and had never said a word in their rpesence before.

This is a serious thread. The title was written to draw attention. I'm considering getting one of those devices, but they cost $4000 and can still only be provided by expensive doctors in the US. That's $5000-7000 including the trip.

I don't but Mrs Flubber's brother still has a serious stutter (at age 28)-- When he was younger, the other kids didn'y bother him much though .. He is currently 6'7" and over 300 pounds.

He has not investigated treatments in the last 10 years or so but I would be interested to pass on any success stories .

Is stuttering a trait which a parent can pass on to a child? In other words is it determined by biology?

Very little is known about the causes of stuttering IIRC. When children start to talk at age 2-5 many have a form of stutter for a period. It would seem that this stage of speech development in some cases isn't overcome for inexplicable reasons.

I stutter and I'm not offended, Sloww and others.

Not enough to even consider getting the device, but just enough to be damned annoying at inopportune times.
