Corruption in Bananatopia Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Why did corruption emerge in Bananatopia?

Turn 50: 4 science

Turn 51: 1 corruption, 3 science

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I've found that sometimes when you re-arange laborer's, yet get corruption where there wasn't just before you rearanged them; even on the same turn! I'm not sure what causes it, but I've definately had it happen to me.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Looking at the corruption formula, I can't see how such a thing could possibly happen.
BigFree, what you're describing sounds like a bug. I've never experienced it in Vanilla Civ, and never in PTW, though I didn't play as much PTW as Vanilla. Maybe it's a new bug.
Has anyone else experienced something similar to this?

Increase Your PM Length

Thinking about it further it only happens after you found a new city. It causes the game to re-compute the corruption for that city since there’s a new number of them. The game only recomputes for each city on a turn if there was growth if no laborer switching was made. Since there was no growth but "Incensity" was founded, the shuffling of labor there caused the game to recompute the corruption for the city. I'll bet that a simulation will bear this out.

I know I am not mistaken about seeing this before; I was PO'd big time when it happened to me. The reason I remeber was that I was to finish a wonder in the next turn so I attempted to shuffle worker's around to make sure I wasn't wasting any shields, but lo and behold the shield output I set was the exact number I needed to complete it, though when I shuffled the worker's around an additional shield was lost due to corruption and no matter what I did the Wonder couldn't be completed by the next turn.

I don't think it is a bug, unless it's a bug that the game doesn't recompute corruption values on every turn for every city regardless of growth.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Yes, BF is right.

Corruption is dependent upon three (main) things:

Distance

Number of Cities

Number of Cities Closer/Farther

Since we now have 4 cities instead of 3, and Icensity is now the closest city to our capital (besides our capital, which actually counts in this equation), that bumped the corruption in Bananatopia up. The problem will get steadily worse for the number of cities we build... That's one of the main drawbacks of a tight pack... a LOT of cities suffer "number of cities which are closer" corruption.

Very well, but it remains strange that it only appears after the shuffling around of laborers.

Not more than when you build the cities further apart...

The Rank of Bananatopia increaced by 1 with the founding of Incense City. In other words, there is one more city that is closer to Apolyton than before. This has an effect on the part of the corruption Calculations that the Optimal Number of Cities comes into play. This same part of the calculation is also effected by the fact that we are a commercial Civ.

If we had been Non-Commercial, then the corruption, both before and after, in Bananatopia would have been slightly worst.

The thing is, that part of the calculation doesn't have as much of an effect on our corruption as the distance while in Despotism and not being connected.

For a quick look at corruption effects, read Alexman's Corruption FAQ for more information.
