What does everyone think about these comedians? Enter the AD-FREE zone

As it often is with comedians and comedic actors, you either love them or you can't stand them, how does everyone feel about the following?

Richard Pryor
George Carlin
John Cleese
Eddie Murphy
Bill Murray
Jim Carrey
Chris Rock
Mike Myers
Bill Cosby

I'll answer for the ones I know:

George Carlin: He's great, immensly funny. His political views remind me of Sava.

John Clease: Great actor and comedian. One of the best of Britian, very representative of the british spirit, IMO.

Eddy Murphy: I like him a lot. He was considered to be toast, his movie career in the trash and all ( I cannot forget the MadTV sketch, Eddie Murphy supposedly begging Spike Lee for a job. ), but Dr. Doolittle and The Nutty Proffessor were great, and showed once again how great an actor he really is.

Bill Murray: the name rings a bell, but I don't remember who he is.

Jim Carrey: funny, but somewhat disturbing, and disturbed himself. I grew to hate his facial expressions.

Chris Rock: a funny man, no doubt. He has a big mouth, but who says that's a bad thing, right? Some people grew annoyed with him, I think he's great.

Mike Mayers: thumbs up for him. I think he's good.

Bill Cosby: He's funny, in a naive kind of way, and he really bought my heart with " Kids say". ( I really liked the sketch in MadTV, where they parody the fact that it's said that his shows don't portray the real life of black people in the USA, so they made him a drug dealer gangster. Hillarious. )

Richard Prior (I think the correct spelling) is a black comedian who was big in the 70's. He's great. Bill Murray was in Ghostbusters... yes...

Mike Myers is crap...

Tired of ads?

AFAIC:

Richard Pryor: was -but has he done anything in the past 15 years?

Georger Carlin: was -but the last things he did that I know of was a comedy series that justifiably flopped and a kid's show "Shining Time Station"

John Cleese: was -but the latest thing he's done is to take the place of "Q" in the Bond series, a franchise that is clearly getting long in the tooth

Eddie Murphy: still

Bill Murray:

Jim Carrey: - a low point in comedy, on the level of Adam Sandler, the "Ben Aflek" of comedy

This generation needs a truly class "A" comedian.

Chris Rock:

Mike Myers:

Bill Cosby: -again, has seen better days

How could you diss Bill Cosby, Sava?

He's one of America's greatest comedians of all time. Right up there with Carson. Lately, he's been keeping a low profile, but no doubt a lot of that has to do with what happened to his family.

Suffering from ads?

I recognized all but Carlin and Rock.

Of the others, I would say Bill Murray and Mike Myers are comic actors, rather than comdedians. Most of Mike Myers stuff I groan at - but I do chuckle sometimes. I could well be wrong on this point.

All the others, well, yeah, really good comedians.

However, my favourite isn't on the list. The late, great, totally insane Spike Milligan. If you can't find him on vid (not his best medium) get the books - they're nutty.

For those that don't recognize the name, he was the old, lost Jewish guy at the end of the mulberry bush scene in Life of Brian.

EDIT: Sorry, make that the juniper bush scene.

Richard Pryor - never liked him much

George Carlin - ok, but kinda over-the-top

John Cleese - a Master.

Eddie Murphy - good. Not as good as he was, but still pretty good.

Bill Murray - Hey, I like Bill Murray. Not that he's done much lately, but I don't care.

Jim Carrey - never liked him.

Chris Rock - Good.

Mike Myers - I hate him. Though I admit, he was good as the voice of Shrek.

Bill Cosby - So what if he's old, and hasn't done much lately?

This seems to be a very "what have you done for me lately" crowd.

Richard Pryor - Like him okay as an actor in films, but never cared for his standup routine.

George Carlin - I liked him at first, but his schtick kinda got stale fast for me. Can be too preachy sometimes.

John Cleese - Love him, one of the funniest men around.

Eddie Murphy - I never understood why he was popular in the first place, but I did enjoy his early movies, especially Trading Places.

Bill Murray - Dr. Venkman! I think he's terrific, and although he has done some crap movies, he's still hysterical.

Jim Carrey - While I enjoyed Ace Ventura, he wore out his welcome pretty fast as a comic actor. His dramatic stuff is actually pretty good, IMO.

Chris Rock - Horrendously bad actor, but a fairly funny comedian. The white-bashing does get a little annoying at times, though.

Mike Myers - Outside of Austin Powers, I pretty much don't care for anything he has done. Although So I Married an Axe Murderer did have some good moments. Very talented, but overdone.

Bill Cosby - Of all on the list, my favorite. He's a genuinely great person and really knows how to induce quality laughs. I grew up watching Bill Cosby Himself all the time, and think it's probably the most charming comedy routine I've ever seen.

Richard Pryor - Great stand up comedian, but his act is too much for movies.

George Carlin - Very funny comedian

John Cleese - Movies, stand up, or corporate lectures... This guy is just FUNNY.

Eddie Murphy - - Can go either way with him depending on the movie... some are good, and others are just plain awful. I saw a little of his stand up, and he was funny.

Bill Murray - If he has the right role, his movies can be funny. Ghostbuster, Scrooged, Caddy Shack and Ground Hog Day were excellent vehicles for his style.

Jim Carrey - Never like him... he comes across too strong and only provides an occasional laugh. I get tired of his "act" quickly.

Chris Rock - - While his act can get tiring quickly, he can sustain it better than Jim Carrey... It depends on the movie. His stand up routines are usually pretty good

Mike Myers - I don't think he has ever made me laugh

Bill Cosby - He is the best stand up comedian of all time. His tones... many voices... facial expressions... his understanding of human nature... his timing... delivery... none finer. While Cleese is far better in movies, Cosby is the best stand up of all time.

I agree with Ming on Cosby and Pryor for their stand-up routines...Pryor might prove a bit much for some, though, but if you haven't seen/heard any of Cosby's old routines you're missing out.

Liar, Liar was pretty funny. I liked the outtakes at the end. Especially the one where the female lawyer fires off "overactor!" at Carrey. The truth can be pretty funny.
