MoI: Border, Cities, Upgrades and Tech rate Inflate your Upload Space

This thread is for discussion of various things, from an MoI angle.

First off, we are looking at CDG wanting to establish a border with us. I am of the opinion that they want a permenant border, one that doesn't get renegotiated every so many turns, but something that they can point to and say is ours or theirs. So, were do WE want that border to be at? To me, it all depends on what we want to have in the way of cities (both on the border and elsewhere). So I talked to Dominae about setting up a full city placement plan and then we can par it down to 3 cases for border negotiations:
1) what we need for cities
2) what we want for cities
3) what we would like for cities.

We would like to have some more discussion on this, as we want to make sure that we place our cities as best as possible, for the future of Apolyton.

The next thing is any future Upgrades. We have a number a warriors that we already have to upgrade and want to get more built over time. But the Upgrades will cost us money (40 Gold per warrior) and we can't afford that right now. We will be getting a little cash from Barbarian camps, but that will also take time to find and clean up. So our main problem right now is cash flow.

We are currently running at 100% research. We will soon be paying for more Improvements (granaries and Barracks) and we are making 0 GPT now. While talking to Dominae about it last night, we found that we could reduce our research to 70 or 80% and get a little cash flow for future upgrades. Of course, the Map Making will get pushed back, depending on what rate we set it at. At 70%, we would be making 4 GPT and at 80%, we would make 2 GPT (I can't remember the tech rate for either). I would suggest that we set for 70%. This would also give us some time to get a galley set up in the Queue and even possibly prebuild it. This is another thing that needs to be discussed.

The Floor is open.

Border:

I want our border to be where Elucidia is. I think we should not agree to any permanent border plan, but a flexible screen, right up until the day our knights ride into Elucidia to put their President's head on a pike. We can talk permanent borders with GCA at that time. Our borders should be the bottlenecks to our west and to our south. 'nuff said.

Tech Rate: I'd support 70 as well. We seem to be enjoying a bit of success in the tech field, and since our COM trait will allow us to get more out of our cities than the other fellow, we should be able to keep parity just fine.

Upgrades: I'd rather see us build more num mercs and less warriors for upgrading. A few is fine, but we can also build those pretty quickly if we need to..... I'd rather see our efforts on defense and infrastructure, and keep the money earmarked for some Horse-to-Knight upgrades instead. Those are expensive too, though, so the above tech rate is a doubly good idea.

Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

I don't like a permanet border also, the likely see us as having the upper hand in REXing, so want a border to keep some land for them. Screw that, lets REX the **** out of them.

Tech at 80%; because if we don't get map done in 20 turns from when CDG signs the tech deal, we pay 3 gpt till we have it. Of couse the proposal is still just a proposal and CDG would have to have their techs too in order to collect. I think we can count on a fair amount of encampments to keep our coffer's in the black in terms of cash flow. We have possibilities for three different barb encampments to pop up, lets take advantage of them and in turn keep CDG from getting them!

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

No permanent border for me either (I assume CDG would never agree to a border I could live with. )

As for the research rate: may I have some plans posted to choose from? I would like to see how that galley (pre)build will time relate to the research rate and Map Making discovery date. I do not think it matters much as far as our cash flow in concerned - at the end, the result will be pretty much the same irrespective of whether we go 100% for X turns and 0% for Y turns or 70%-80% for (X+Y) turns. So the only reason to slow the research down could be our inability to make use of MM earlier anyway (galley build planned for a bit later time) or a need to upgrade our warriors ASAP (which is not the case, I believe, as we already have gold enough to upgrade one, maybe two warriors).

Well, I think they are just trying to lull us into a false sense of security, so no permanent border for me either

I'd say a temporary one of aproximately where our warrior screen is (the river) is alright though. As long as it gets renegotiated along with NaP's. I don't think we'll be expanding past that in 20-30 turns anyways, and we can re-evaluate their sincerity and our situation at that time.
