As long as you keep a minor cold going for most of the year you won't get anything else I have found. I have a extremely minor cold (occasional blocked nose or sneeze) for at least 10 months per year. The only other thing I get is hay fever for 10 days a year, but that' hard to prepare for.

How to do this? I find rowing in T-Shirt and short leg lycra for the whole year no matter what the weather or temperature does fairly well for me. I also used to work in a hospital (and in lab where all kinds of viruses (upto containment level 3) were handled), so my immune system is/was constantly challenged.

I have not been seriously ill for at least 8 years now *knocks on wood*, so it must help in some shape or form.

You are lucky that I'm not likely to be jealous. I wasn't able to get too much under 300 hours ill per year when I was in the school. Well schools could have 10 hours per day so that number isn't that big.

Cleaning your hands in a little funny ways? Well this behavior is common for people from bio lab. You know I just studied weapons and could have this behavior too when is rummored outbreak of some highly ct illness.

Apart from the obvious ones already mentioned in this thread, there are a number of others that have helped me keep healthy in the UK;

1) Avoid just about all take away food like the plague. Usually it is carrying just that.

2) ESPECIALLY avoid any sort of preparation involving fish, eggs, pork or chicken.

3) Avoid walking in downturn areas where those that cannot tolerate alcohol have left kerbside quiche (AKA pavement pizza) behind them.

Now you know why we only eat chips (French fries). Everything else is potentially lethal. The same goes for our fine culinary tradition of frying everything until black and boiling it until mushy.

Actually, the reverse is true. Ever wonder why nurses and doctors don't get sick too often, despite being surrounded by sick people day in, day out?

I'd like to tell people how I stay healthy, but I am sitting at home at the moment with a bad cold...

I make sure never to sleep with an open balcony door. That is what makes me catch a cold most of the time. Nasty colds too.

Oh yeah, stress avoidance. If you can't avoid it, make sure you have a wind down/relax session at some point of the day. If I stay stressed for long periods of time I'll fall ill pretty quickly. I guess this is my body insisting on a break.

Got spare money?

I was seriously sick for the first time in my life a couple of years ago with a rare strain of food poisoning. I'm 29, and other than that, I've never had anything more serious than a couple days of "sniffles".

Why? Because my mom didn't obsess about washing (yes, we washed our hands, just not compulsively), and we never took medication if it wasn't necessary . Aside from the medication I took for that food poisoning, I have probably taken less than a dozen pills my whole life.

Lesson: Strengthening (or not weakening) your immune system keeps you well.
