Just "Wondering" Remove this text

Has anyone bothered to smack F7 and see if any wonders are under production?

This is about the time in most games that I consider devoting two workers to a specific township and devoting that town to the production of a wonder, but at the moment I haven't heard any mention of them.

Do we plan on building any wonders? The Pyramids, maybe, or if we can get contact with one or two more civs via Mapmaking (and we almost certainly will) the Library? (Yes, I know we don't have literature yet, prebuilds are good, m'kay.)

With the rate techs are exchanged, it seems like the 0 percent research/Great Library cheese might be a good idea. It would also allow us to rush structures quickly under Republic.

The Wall seems pointless in our position (but if I were GCA I'd be thinking about it) and I've never been much impressed with the Colossus/Oracle/Gardens.

Knowing if anyone's building anything might end up being pretty useful information, though.

Had a quick look and it doesn't look like anyone is building anything at the moment.

Is that F7 screen limited to people you have embassies with or contact?

I dont think there are any plans to build any wonders at the moment.

I'm absolutely sure that you don't need embassies in other civs to see what wonders they're building in PTW MP. I'm not sure about whether you need contact or not.

You do need contact, but do not need an embassy (with no contact, you are notified only after the wonder is finished). The problem is that the F7 screen is useful only when the bulding civ has the build set to the wonder, not during the prebuild phase - unless you are devoting your capital to the task, you will most certainly use a 300-shield palace as a prebuild, which will not show on the F7 screen... and even the capital city would use some kind of a prebuild to keep the wonder build secret as long as possible...

It also is used the other way round - you can "prebuild" regular city improvements using a wonder placeholder, to confuse others.

I agree that it's just about time where wonders are being started (Lego Pyramids were started around this time, I believe), but I am quite sure we have no city we could devote to wonder building. Fortunately, none of the ancient wonders seems to be a must for us... For the moment and for the foreseeable future, wonders are out of question for us, IMHO.

We're in no position to build a Wonder at this point. With all the talk of building up "enough" military for whatever we may need it for, I'm not sure how it would be possible to remove our highest production city from the equation. And, incidentially, our highest production city would be Apolyton (because of the Hills), and 1) it's busy acting as a "pump", 2) it's production would not be that high anyway without a lot of effort (improvements, pop growth, etc.).

We'll have to do without Wonders for a long time, I think.

Got spare money?

Honestly I don't think we'll need them yet. But we should try and get some medieval wonders, I'd go for Leo's in case we want some major upgrading/warmongering. I doubt we'll be able to avoid confilct after the ancient age...

Pyramids: If we had a lot of good land which we could use after building up our population or covering a lot of territory with cities it would be good. But we have unproductive jungle.

Colossus: No city which can take proper advantage of it.

Great Lighthouse: We're not on some big isolated island, so having this isn't pivotal.

Great Library: Tech trading makes the GL more of an investment than it's worth.

Oracle: We're not going to have a lot of big cities with temples any time soon. Count this one out.

Great Wall: Yawn.

The rest are far in the future.

Last I checked, the Pyramids are pretty good at taking care of "lotta Jungle" situations (Lego?). If I thought we have a good shot at the Pyramids, I would definitely recommend it. Hey, that gets me thinking...do we have good shot at the Pyramids in Apolyton?

If you want a chance at that juicy Medieval age Wonder, you have to start planning pretty far ahead.

Again, the only real problem is that we cannot afford to lose one of our cities to be caught up in Wonder production.

By the time we finish the Pyramids we'll have a group of fairly large cities and a massive cadre of Workers already working on the situation. Remember, when we get to Republic each one of those Workers is going to cost us 1 GPT. We can't really afford to have 50 Workers running around hacking foliage. By the time we finished the Pyramids we'll have the entire south "river valley" chopped, which is really the only area where's it's absolutely pivotal that we clear in the near future. After that we can simply chop swathes of land to new city sites, and until they reach a steady population over 3/4 we won't need that many tiles cleared.

Helpful, yes. But I feel we're better off with our Granaries and our current Worker plans, if only for support costs, and, as you mentioned the extreme production (and accompanying Worker/Settler) cost that we would incur.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Let's put "IronCity" into Wonder production when it's built; it's take a while, perhaps until the Middle ages, but what the hey, let's do it.

You have to have contact to know if someone is building a Wonder.

As for what we want to build, I'm uncertain, but the pyramids is a good one to try for.

And as for paying for 50 workers, that will be offset with the extra trade from Republic. Also, Reintegrating workers as also a possibility, depending on what is still needed. But also having 50 workers by that time is also not a realistic possibility.
