I decline people's request just for sake of being able to decline it.
I tell them "Nah, I can't... Cause I can."

My friends got used to it (me being a d!ckhead! hahaha)

EDIT: Actually I do alot of favors, so dont mistake it for me being a person who only does something when there is reward.

Pekka, did you tell your relative you were treated unfairly..? If you tell him/her maybe he spreads it around company? It will be better than keeping it to yourself, and who knows they maybe will have an opening soon

Btw. I like to help people, but this sounds like they were pretty rude with you, especially the boss. Did you make sure he is/they are aware how difficult the work was? Did you roll your eyes ofthen and swear "Oh this is impossible!" - "**** who configured this before me! Amateur!" - "Oh boy this thing here, could have blown up the building! Lucky I'm here!" - "This will be tough but I know a way!" - "I'll save you a thousand by doing this little tweak!" .. etc etc

Well the boss wasn't aggressive, but he said those things.. mostly wondering though. Other than that, they didn't care that I was there. I pretty much didn't have a chance to talk with them, they ignored pretty much. I don't want to work with these people even if they offered me a job. The way I see it: you don't like me? Fine, give me few bucks and I'm on my way. You like me? Ok let's get a cup of coffee and have a chat. You don't have money? Fine, pretend that you like me and let's get coffee. If none of those things happen, then I'm not willing to see them again.

I did call my relative and he said that they are like that sometimes, rude and all. That's it. But I don't know I just can't get over this.. I don't know why. Maybe it makes me remember that this is my life story and it won't change.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Well if you told your relative he'll let them know I think so it is a very good thing If you keep it to yourself it is like it didn't happen.

And maybe you two can come up with a little sabotage in the right moment so they need you again but pay you this time

Nah, he holds small place there. I know he won't bring it up.. it's a fact. And he doesn't have to do that for me, he'll only get into trouble, or doesn't have any effect.

I'm past the aggression phase and sabotage too. I just don't give a crap about it anymore. I don't know, maybe I should just stop caring about things. Seems to work.

I would put it down as a plus point in your favour = you didn't blow your top or walk out (even though entitled to) and finished the job. Professional.

Changing your life story is up to you. This is one example of an abrasive, rude manager. Many are like that. Many are more sophisticated, and some can be be quite humane.

Expecting reasonable treatment from every boss is not a realistic expectation. Like I said, put it down as a learning experience - quite a tough one - and give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.

There are many, many routes open to you in tech support. Admittedly many of them involve upping sticks and moving - but if you carry on the way your going, thinking of yourself as a "loser" for not being a nastier person - you're not going to be happy. If you decide to become a nastier person - again, you're not going to be happy.

Decide what YOU want from an employer, and seek out that employer. They'll never come to you - but if you're smart you can find out in advance who you prefer working for, and where you'll be happiest.

Sure, I don't even want to do tech support as my job. Besides, he even wasn't MY boss. If he was my boss, then I could have taken some bashing, but this guy is not my boss, and this guy is not paying me money, I don't work for him.
And don't worry, I'm not the guy who is always smiling and nice to everyone. That's not me. But I prefer being nice if possible.

I know.. I don't know I feel like crap now for some reason. I don't know what it is. I go to bed and sleep, I don't want to be seen like this. I'm just too tired now and I want to puke and scream and kill innocent animals.
Tomorrow everything will be better again and I'll come back fighting. I just need to reload my batteries a little.

ps. I really don't feel like killing innocent animals.

Pekka: I think you should take a leaf out of Cruddy's book and send the company an invoice, detailing your work, labour, and travel expenses. After all, what can you lose except a little more time?

As for the topic, I do find it hard to say "no" to people. This sunday will be spent sorting out a friend's PC after he had a virus. I'll help him, because in this case he can't help himself (and he's a good bloke who puts himeself out for other's). But I know it will take all afternoon, and that's my weekend: gone.

If the person in question would do a favour for me should I need it, then yes I would help them. If the person in question wouldn't do a favour for me, relative or not, then I would charge them for my time.

I'm not going to let people I don't like screw me over.

If $ is involved, or if the job leads to further leads, I'd call it a professional job. If not, heck, I am just a helper, I could walk out if I don't like it.

Pekka, this one is simple: Send them an invoice. For, say, $250. Don't have an invoice? MS Excel has a few templates ready for you to use.

Another good reason for sending them an invoice: You can put the company down as a work reference on future resumes/applications.

Re: Are you 'yes' man? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Damn. I almost always do what I'm asked to do if someone refers to me personally. Better or worse. For example, some days ago a guy asked me to buy sth. He was obviously a cheater, and though I knew He probably is, I decided to buy his product just so that He wouldn't be disappointed in his hope I would buy it. Also, I spend a lot of money last time giving money to anyone asked me to give it to him. I participated in some action of feeding children in poorer regions, twice,
I "bought" an elephant and a pen from people (I don't know if it's a common way of begging in your places) who were offering it in exchange for financial support, I gave some money to other beggars, and I always give my sit to elderly people in busses and tramways though I think it is in fact dumb thing to do, as they go out after one stop and very often don't even thank You. When it comes to giving money, I very rarely can stop myself from doing that. I don't know why, because again I think it is stupid. I often don't eat though all day because I'm too mean to buy myself something more than a bounty or something and a coke tin, but...
That becomes quite a serious problem to me. When I was robbed some months ago I promessed myself I won't give money to beggars because I lost all my savings in fact, but it didn't stop and now I run out of money very quickly.

You just need to become more cynical.

Now I only give to charities such as Oxfam. It's not possible to tell if a beggar on the street needs the money - he might have more $ than you!
