	US Civ3 + UK PTW = work / no work? Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Hi,

I'm in the UK but when civ3 first came out I got the US version for that extra 1 month of play time Now I am finally getting round to getting PTW; will the UK PTW (with the map of Africa on the box) work with the US base civ3, or do I need to somehow find myself a US PTW (with the armwrestling box)? I probably could, but it would be a hassle...

PS As far as PTW patches go, I read that US PTW 1.21f, which is allegedly 'US version only', in fact does work with UK PTW, so that's not an issue (for the moment).

This is gonna get more complicated when Conquests is released, of course

Well, I have a US version of Civ3 and a UK version of PtW, so I can help you.

First, the game works. I have experienced a few bugs that I didn't see in the bugs thread, so maybe there are a few compatibility issues. These were mostly graphical glitches. Not that bad, but it still is sad to have a feeling of uncertainty like that as to what is an ordinary glitch, and what is a specific US+UK glitch.

Second, UK patches are shipped along other European patches, and this takes a loooooong time, because Atari is in charge of it, and doesn't put any effort in satisfying their European customers. For instance, we are waiting for the 1.21 patch to come out in Europe since February ! And it is very difficult to play MP with Americans, who are updated for 3 months now...

I expect there will be a similar beef with Conquests when it comes out. I would really advise you to buy the US version : I haven't seen any language difference between the US and UK versions (yet, I'm French, so there may have been subtleties that I didn't notice), and the few extra glitches + the lack of real support really speak against the UK version
