Fist Impressions - Retail Version Inflate your Upload Space

Actually, that thread title is a little misleading. It should read, "I finally got the full version, and am loving this game so much I can't stand it, and why all these stores are not breaking street date just baffles me"

OK, so I know why some stores won't break street date. But I'll tell you this, Circuit City is certainly making some good money on this title (for right now anyway). I got the last copy at my CC, and they put out 15 of them the manager told me (they put it out this morning, I bought it around 3:30).

To BHG : Thank you for making such an incredible game! I realize there are alot of disappointed people, that were expecting something else, or something more, or whatever. I respect that, I have been there. But for me, this game just kicks ass. I love it. It is an RTS with some built in special things that really makes it fun. Especially if you are willing to play it a bit slower than most RTS's. The CtW mode is just flat awesome! This mode plays like a combination of the boardgame Risk and the computer game M:TW. It plays faster than Total War though, which I like. And of course, the 8 different epochs, the many, many pre-game options, and the overall feel of the game is just great.

I would like to make (what I believe is) a small suggestion to the CtW mode. When you look at the state of the world screen shot, to see who is progressing well, etc... I would love it if you could sort the countries by the various categories. I am actually surprised you can't. It seems so obvious that it should be in there.

Anyway, my initial impression is Wonderful Game. Go Mother Russia !!!!!!!!!

There are certain things about this game that are just so subtle, and so cool:

1 - Wonders. Depending on the Wonder you decide to build first, your strategy can change dramatically. And, once that wonder (or any wonder) is destroyed, see ya' - cause you ain't gettin' it back.

2 - Slow progression / High Cost. This option, or whatever it's called, makes the game a bit "slower", and imo, more strategic. Things cost more to upgrade, making choices tougher. You are in each age longer, meaning not all battles will occur in gunpowder or later. And when your economy is functioning at about 88%, and it takes a buttload of wealth to go to the next commerce level, but you NEED troops, and you need upgrades... ahhhhh.... what do I do first! Awesome!

3 - Nuclear Embargo. Although I am not sure why all countries are affected, this really makes for an interesting turn of events, especially when you really need trade.

4 - How to spend prestige in CtW. Talk about doing something that could have long lasting effects! Do I buy that cool card, when do I play it? Do I buy an ally? Do I upgrade my conquered areas? The choices rock!

Just a flat incredible game! More to come.

There is a Manual 20+ pages(?) and a hotkey card that also has the civs listed with their bonuses. There's something else on the card also.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Hey Gang,

Try your Targets! I never thought of them as a real PC shop but the one here in Springfield, OR had it last Saturday while my local Circuit City and Electronic Boutiques also had them in stock but were unwilling to sell them before the street date.

That manual is REALLY minimal. You only see the Nations specialties on the hotkey card but even then its really minimal, like the Romans produce Heavy Infantry a little faster (no exact percentage as provided in the game's help text within the game) nor any info on the Nations special military units other than listing them by name.

Thr strategy guide, on the other hand, has actually proven pretty useful. Not just crap on how to BEAT the game but really showing you the game's depth and inner mechanics.

Thanks for the info on the manual. I would have preferred a detailed manual like that for Civilization III or AOE II, but the grief is eased off its omission by the excellent help provided in the game itself.

Problem is, I do like to read manuals! So I will order the Strat Guide I suppose.
