	Who is Yang? Who are the parents of Deirdre? Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

It just came to my mind: In the "official" description of the factions (to be found here on Poly), they give the birth dates of the faction leaders. Two of them are already among us:
Zakharov born in 1994
Yang in 1999
Who are they? What do they look like now?

Who could be father or mother of
Morgan (2005),
Lal (2006),
Miriam (2014),
Santiago (2026),
Roze (2027),
Aki (2028)?

Oh, and I have to get this wonderful French girl who looks like Deirdre (2025) and move with her to Scotland . Her beauty (having brown eyes) would combine nicely with my blue eyes ... Would give a nice granddaughter (oh, hurry on).

They are probably talking about the period of the "second schism" of Germany, where East Germany wants to go back to "New Europe" and does so under a republican administration. A period of tension gives rise to the phrases "The Tin Curtain"(coined by an aged and retiring Tony Blair) and "The Chilly War". This period ends with the "Second Anchluss" and the formation of "Ever Greater Germany" (ImmerGrossDeutschland).

Oh Young lives next door. He is a very bright 4 year old. I don't know what exactly his parents do. I only know that they seem to be holding some important connections in the Chinese government. I have started to teach Young all the tactics I learned from SMAC. I'm sure he'll be very mature by the time they plan to move back to China (Last I heard they are planning to go back in 6 years).

O wait, he is the son of a colleague of mine? He and his wife left their son with his grandparents. Now they are earning a living in the USA after he had a postdoc position in Germany.

Xioapang looks sufficiently Chinese for non-Chinese. In fact, there are rumours that Um Lei Tung is the Chinese minister of traffic - in Germany.

The strange thing is that the Firaxis website has Yang as something of an imperialist, not a communist. He is security minister to the "Golden Emperor" (by the way, an astonishingly crap title - one that I don't think the Chinese would even consider) and disappears in the "Crimson Secession" (presumably some second Communist revolution).

If you look closely, Yang's preferences are for Police State, not Planned economics. This is in keeping with his authoritarian leanings. The real Communists in the game are Marr and H'minee, who favor Planned.

Yes, I'm afraid it does. However, don't give up hope! Fortunately, Yang is Chinese, and as we all know, Chinese people/government/politics/freeze-dried-noodles are the root of all the modern world's evils, a la Clancy's The Bear and the Dragon, so obviously SMAC players the world over can heave a sigh of relief because we still have a good reason to hate Yang. ~ The end.

Speaking of the Crimson-Headed-Warrior: one of the pictures of her in the diplomacy comm display is actually quite photogenic. She's a late teen or young adult and she's making a kissy face at the screen. When I saw that, I remembered the manual saying she is charismatic and can attract and manipulate people.

Interesting to see that Firaxis put in a little kernel of personality continuity behind this usually-maligned leader.
