THe in-game help says that Archers are good vs. heavy infantry while the Javelin throwers are good vs. pike men.
Now question is, what is heavy infantry then (in old ages) if not the pike men?? You have no other infantry to build.
Also, while we're on it, how is light infantry defined? Which units are?

The term heavy infantry refers to the entire "heavy infantry" line of units. That would be any unit that appears in the 2nd column of the rax (including pikemen, hoplite, phalanx, etc...)

Javelineers and other light infantry are good against archers, not against heavy infantry.

Then who should stand in the first line? The light infantry? Won't it get them slaughtered?
