50 nukes and you didn't hit Armageddon?!

it is impossible to launch 50 nukes in a game. armageddon only takes 20 nukes on even large team games.

Sorry, but in a full, huge-map game, I've had the counter on 26 by default. 28 if you count the Missile Defense Shield supertech. But as far as I know, that's as high as you can go.

Hi,
Yeah, nukes are cool. BTW, don't try to save an ally's bacon with one.
I was playing a quick game- Moderate, One ally for me and 2 hostile AIs. Got to the nuke age first and started building. One AI had been at war with my ally since dirt, but my buds were mostly able to beat them off, only losing a city. Once, I sent them some air cover to break up the attack.
So, as I was saying, the AI is beating on my bud, while I had two armies chewing on the nearest other AI. I was completely immeshed in that fight and didn't have anything I could spare for my ally ... except nukes.
The AI had a massive army driving on the last city before my ally's capital. My ally had a few troops holding the line, but it was clear he was going to be beaten back. I picked the spot I thought would mark the enemy's frontline and fired ...
BOOOOOOM! Lots and lots of units died. Probably close to 100. Unfortunately, about 20 or so were my ally's. He did NOT take this well and declaired war on me. Ungrateful git. After I save his city, this is the thanks I get?
So, I took everything I had and threw it at the last AI player (having finished the guy I was involved with in the meanwhile) and then killed off my ally last. Great game. Armageddon counter ended at 2.
We had to destroy the village to save it,

Thats actually a pretty cool idea. All the tiles are replaced with Fallout style ones, and the maximum tech, and therefore resource collection too, would be set a lot lower, Industrial or even lower. That would be really cool, and still allow a proper "finish" to the game.

Assuming your question is serious (I think it is), the game starts an Armageddon counter when someone launches the first nuke. Each additional nuke brings the counter down by one. When the counter reaches zero, everyone loses.

My idea:
Landscape changes to look more "post-apocolyptic", resources income drop to 1/10, era level of all remaining and built units randomized
my idea is dumb, sorry

Actually, thats a very cool idea. It would be like playing mad max, with your WWI armored cars fighting next to knights I'm thinking I'd love this to at least be an option. The textureset would be time-consuming, though not impossible to make... just make everything with a grey-brown hue, including (dead) trees and water.
And yes, the nuclear explosions are a wonder to behold

I agree, that would be VERY cool for the game to continue into a "nuclear winter" era...but wouldn't that make the game go much longer?
If they can't do that, then why not have a full motion video of the world entering into nuclear winter...?
I don't know...but i do think that it is kinda...well....hmmmm....

i like armageddon as it is. it makes an interesting diplomatic tool. also makes you think about which targets to attack first... no point in taking the capital when he has silos active...

Silos are fast to build, but nukes are not. So your first targets should be the silos! I have yet to play in a game that got close to Armageddon, so I'm not speaking from experience. But given how expensive nukes are, I think in that situation I would be much more likely to build cruise missles to take out enemy silos. Quicker and cheaper to build, and still very effective at destroying their target (though not as much "collateral" damage).

My God. That'd be so cool - the "post-apocalyptic age," attainable not by research but destruction. 1/2 of all units and buildlings per player are destroyed (chosen randomly) and those that remain suffer continual, and major attrition damage (like death within 10 seconds, if that), reducable to 25% w/ supply trucks. And attrition rates happen in your OWN territory as well (military units only, because itd be very painful to have to keep producing villagers), minus 50% of the attrition tech you already had (ie, if you researched it so you only recieve 50% as much attrition in enemy territory before armaggeddon happened, your own territory only deals you 100% - (50% of 50%) = 75% attrition damage, meaning you can reduce your total attritoin damage to as low as 50%, unless you have supply trucks in your territory (which cover the units). They'd reduce the attrition rate at 75% (b/c it reduced 75% of 100% to get to 25% in enemy territory) of 50%, meaning your total attrition rate could be, minimally, 12.5%, which isn't too bad really. Resource collection rates fall to +1 per villager, 90% of all resources "disappear" (ie 90% of the oil wells vanish, killing any villagers pumping them, 90% of the forests vanish, klling any villagers logging them, etc). And you can only build 1 farm per city due to "excessive soil radiation."
The Age is known as "Post-Apocalyptic Age" but your techs are virtually the same as those in the gunpowder age and with a mix of industrial age techs (like armored cars, biplanes), with minor tweaks like new names, slightly different image schema, etc. Any units fielded when Armaggeddon occurs that aren't destroyed by the age shift are allowed to remain as they were, meaning you can have main battle tanks fighting side by side with your (horse) calvary. Silos can't be built any more but silos that aren't destroyed can still produced nukes, and each nuke detonated increases attrition damage in all territory in a certain radius around the blast by 100% for 4 minutes, due to increased radiation. Wonders stop functioning, or at least most of them. Airbases function similarly to silos (meaning you can't make them but as long as they exist you can create planes, probably bi-planes only though but you can't build airbases).
Population cap falls by 25%, meaning if it was capped at 200 it now maxes at 150, and unit creation costs increase by 50%. Markets can sell goods for very high prices but goods are hard to come by in the first place, and to buy goods requires like 999 wealth per 100. Resource stockpiles drop 80% when "Post-Apocalyptic Age" begins.
Water level rises to 200%, meaning rivers/oceans/lakes are now twice as wide and twice as long (Area = 4x as large therefore, in Pi*(r')^2, r'=2r), and any units or buildlings that occupied land which was then covered by that water are immediately killed/destroyed.
Knowledge becomes nonexistant (like ancient research values), making your scholars worthless. Rare resources begin dealing out 4 times what they would normally, making them VERY important (get it? Rare resources become even rarer in the "Post-Apocalyptic Age"). I'd imagine quite a few battles fought solely to claim a field of cotton.
ANYWAY, sorry I ranted, I just thought it'd be a cool idea. LIKE IF YOU WERE A MODDER OR SOMETHING AND HAD NOTHING TO DO FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS OR SO I MEAN I DON'T KNOW MAYBE YOU WOULD WANT TO DO THIS OR SOMETHING....ahem.
