Whoa... an AI first... Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Well, the AI may have built it in past games and I may have just missed it, but this is certainly the first time I've seen the AI build a fortress.

I saw the AI building fortress before (I play PTW). I used to see the AI building fortress on places, where I would build.

Especially, when the AI doesn't has a "good" relation to his neighbour it is trying to defend himself or ensure resources with fortresses.

Suffering from ads?

Ive seen the AI build fortresses, but only rarely. Usually its after I have knocked them around a little.

I have never seen it.

There have been very few situations where a fortress would make any sense AND the AI actually had the opportunity to build it. Fortresses are usually a border-kind of thing and pre-emptive building of border-fortresses are simply not an AI-force.

I have seen the AI make decent use of fortresses if it has a choke point to manage or has been bottled up for a while and the workers had finished all other improvements.

Now if only we could teach it to use some artillery to help defend it...

I don't ever recall an AI building a fortress either ..strange that..In ptw they build enough Radar sites but no fortresses.
