The long, silver object, that was stuck in the ground, began to quiver slightly. Slowly at first, but faster, and faster, and faster...
Several seconds later, the object fell down, flat on the ground. It soon stopped twitching.
On the inside, things were in chaos...
"Okay. Phase One is SUCCESFULL!" a loud, burly voice yelled out over the intercom. It belonged to the captain of the aptly named USS Mayflower. "I repeat, Phase One is SUCCESFUL! Landing drop is a success!"
A cheer went up through the hull of the Mayflower. The Eagle had landed.
In the carge bay of the Mayflower, preperations were being made. There was yet another shaking as the cargo doors opened, and an absolutely, chrome-colored tracked vehicle rolled out.
With an unearthly droning buzz, the vehicle moved north, flattening several more hectares of rainforest. It found itself a clearing, where it began it's work.
First, the body of the vehicle lowered itself down until it was flush with the rocky surface.
Next, the body literaly opened itself sideways in a clamshell fashion. Sitting beneath it, like a pearl, was a large, chrome colored sphere.
The chrome colored sphere rose on a telescoping column, until it was about 20 metres off the ground. Then, it's work began.
The sphere glowed golden, then began to spin around at a very high speed. It changed from a solid, to a liquid. The centrifugal force began to turn it into a slightly distorted sphere at first...
...but gradually, it became a disc...
...and then, it began to expand.
The disc grew, and grew, until it covered an area of 6.28 kilometers. It sagged slightly, until it lowered, and then was level with the ground. Then, it cooled very rapidly, and changed back into a solid object.
A second tracked vehicle rolled out of the Mayflower's cargo bay. It drove onto the center of the disc,a nd repeated the same process. But where there was a sphere, here, there was an annulus. It too heated itself, and spun around, until it covered the circumference of the disc. Then, it began to project a field around the circumference of the disc. The field grew to form a dome.
Eagle's Nest 1 was born.
