I really enjoy the Chinese, so far. The French are very nice as well, as are the Bantu.

The Chinese get to create villagers instantly, which I think is a huge advantage, as well as some other econ bonuses. All of their cities start out as Large Cities.
The French have the supply wagon that repairs units in the field as well as eliminating attrition, which is very nice. They also get a free general with each fort and fortification improvements.

Everytime I've tried China I've always had a huge point lead in the early game, due to the instant citizens. However I want to point out another good one - the Inca. Every miner generates 10 wealth in addition to the usual metal, and their wealth commerce cap is 33% higher than normal. Wealth is the most versatile resource, since you can easily exchange it for whatever you need at the market. The Inca don't have any particular offensive or defensive advantages, certainly nothing to rush with, but they can be adapted to almost any strategy and do well.

I like the Japanese because of their Ability to plunder and not yield any plundered wealth. Also, they have great SpecialUnits right until the end of the medieval age. The British are also equally my favorite and maybe even more so because of their SpecialUnits and because of their abilities. I really wish they had included India or that they include India in an expansion. They have a wonder but not the Civ (Taj mahal) and I am of Indian origin so maybe i'm a little biased. I feel they should have the power of instant build scholars and cheap scholars (today they have the largest number of college level educated professionals) and Spec.Units are obvious. A Elephant type unit, a Ghurka for modern times Commando (include Nepal with India), etc.

I have been enjoying playing the Koreans and the Greeks.
Regarding the Koreans, I love the free citizens with each city. Also, starting the game with a temple is quite nice.
As for the Greeks, they are probably not the best civ to play in multiplayer, but in sp, I always seem to be way ahead in tech than the computer. The main benefit is that Library research is faster. The fact that you start out with a University and can build them right away is not that much of a factor for me, as I usually only build a scholar or two before you would be able to build them anyway.

I'm a newbie, but I have been playing the Germans and find them a very strong civilization; they have economic advantages and their military rocks, especially in the later part of the game.
Nothing like taking on a generic tank with a Tiger or Leopard. Kaboom!
I do think that the civs are pretty well balanced and that basicaly the better you are, the better your chances.

Wow, I guess I'm the only one who likes playing Russian so far. The attrition feature is one thing that really interested me in RoN, so I've been favoring the civ with attrition bonuses. They also have a good improved line of light cav - fast and cheap.

I like playing as the Russians myself. The attrition is very nasty. Once you have both the Kremlin and the Colloseum, your enemies will suffer major attrition losses. In a multiplayer game, I had those 2 wonders and took out my opponent's supply wagons when he attacked me. His units each lost about 10 hit points a second, and died within a minute. What better defense is there than that? I also really love the Shock Infantry and T-80 tanks, they are quite tough.
I also play as the British a lot. I like the Highlanders and Lancaster Bombers, plus all the navy bonuses. It is easy to build a large fleet, and the Bombers make assaults quite easy.
Next game though I plan to try out the French.

From my own bumbling play so far it has seemed like the Bantu have the edge on everybody because unless you can take out that extra city of theirs early on, by the Gunpowder Age they wind up with a 15% to 20% resource lead and you are doomed! |
Its all very well having an extra city, but Britain out resources everyone quite easily. You may have three cities producing a total of +100 food, while the British have only 2 but are producing +120. The main advantage of the Bantu free city is controlling larger tracts of territory.
Britains advantages are hard to spot if you are playing against them, but once you use the British you understand how powerful they really are. Its not ostentatios like Russian attrition visibly eating troops or Bantu city spam. Stiff upper lip and all, just get on with the job old boy.

If any civ is unbalanced i think it's koreans, i thought so in demo and i don't think anything has changed. They get 3 tech lines for free, plus huge ammounts of instant free villagers, faster repair and cheaper towers. Their economy has to be HUGE bonus early game. 8 free instant citizens by 2nd age!

If you say the Koreans are unballanced, play as them on thoughest or so, you should win all the time, if they have such an advantage ...
Every Nation (IMO) has an economic advantage, even offensive ones! It can be cheaper units, cheaper resource gathering, free gran's/smelters/sawmil, free techs, pop cap difference, ...., whatever, every1 has 1!!!
EVERY nation has its strong points! learn to use them to their propper intent !

I love the Chinese, they just suit my style a lot.
I'd have to say I think the Egyptians seem somewhat overpowered to me. They just race to SoL and then it gets nasty (especially if you're Russian). I think they should really tone down the SoL... it's way unbalanced now.
