Tips for beating the tough AI on CTW.... Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

For those of you who may be having trouble with the AI set to tough here are some tips.
First, if you can survive the first 2 attacks you should be golden. The computer will attempt to attack you early in the game usually around 5-6 minutes in. At this point I usually have one fort or tower up and the army I start with which is usually enough to fend them off. Even if they manage to kill my army, the tower/fort and then my capital is enough to kill them. For some reason the AI will not reinforce its attacking army which is a shame. There have been several games I should have lost, if only they would have sent in the second army they had in their capital.

Second strategy I use is to build two forces. One is the infantry/archer force which I station at my main choke point, or the point I know they computer will attack from. Second group is calvary which I park in a key spot. The spot I park them in is usually just outside of the area they will attack from. When they send theyre army in, I engage them from the front with my infantry/archer/forts and then swoop in from behind with my calvary force, It works wonders and I have yet to lose with this tatic.

Third thing to watch for is the choke point. The AI will attempt the same point 1 or 2 times but then try an alternate route. I usually pause the game in the beginning and study the map and pick out which routes the enemy is most likely to come in on. I set up my cities/defense based on this.

Fourth thing is this, when you have built up an appropriate force, including some artillery/cannons, wait for the computer attack. Immediatley after fending off the assualt, get your groups to his capitol and attack. The most he will have at this point is reinforcements coming from the barrackes etc. which should not be enough to take down your army. Protect those cannons and take his capitol, game over.

The AI in this game is awesome but like every other AI, it has its limits and once you figure out how to beat them its simple. I remember getting my *** handed to me the first time I played on tough, now its nothing. I don't want to try tougher cause i just think that resource handicap thing is total crap.

By the way, if any of you wants to see an aweomse replay of my strategy working just let me know. I have a really neat one where egypt attakced me with two armies, I had one. They started out with 2 cities and a wonder and should have beaten me several times over. There were a few times I amlost hit the quit button but through good micro I managed to gain the upperhand and crush them!

I am almost done with the CTW campagin and will most likely try MP then.....
