	Inviting new ISDGers? Got spare money?

With all the talk about inactive members, it occurs to me: what is the procedure for inviting new ones? I know about 15-20 people on the ladder who are all very good, would be exceedingly loyal and post at least moderately. I don't know why I haven't thought of this before- how do we get new folks in? If people aren't interested, let's get people who WILL be. "Winning from a pathetic starting position" is what ladder games are all about.


(And many of them are far less "hawkish" ( to Master Zen) than I.)

That's certainly one point of view. I'm taking another perspective to the problem, and in any case these are people I'd like to see join anyhow, because I know they'll stick it out no matter what.

But is it really a matter of that many people having left, or that they were never really active to begin with? Having been here since the beginning, I don't think we've lost that large a percentage of active posters, but the number of active members compared to the total on the team has always been somewhat small. If we can bring in new people who will contribute and participate, then I say we should go for it. The worst that could happen is that we'd end up having more discussion and debate, and isn't that the whole point?

Well, it is basically that they have to create an account on Poly (if not having one), "join" the ISDG civgroup, and have someone already on the team vouch for them. BetaHound then authorizes such new members into this private forum.

Is that all? Sweet. I know of a couple ladder players who will be immense assets to the team- one or two are even number-cruncher types.

(To allay any worries now- I'm not about to haphazardly invite; I'm thinking of a small elite group I've known for quite some time, and play with extensively. No morons will be vouched for by me.)

I think that if the number is small say around 5 would be ok. Plus, I'm sure if you can vouch for them it would be ok with the team (at least for me it would)

I would be fine with you bringing on some more active players. And I will try and refrain from philosophical ramblings in the future

I'm not even sure that it will be as many as 5 in the final tally. I'm mentally reviewing the list and culling the ones I think have uncertain characteristics.... at least as far as this type of game goes.

Drastic problem calls for drastic actions. This comes to mind :

1. Set up a Ministry of Recruitment.
2. The Minister of Recruitment will set up a broad Target of Poly posters he wants to recruit, it could be - Civ III Stragey Forum experts, Demo Game experts, ISDG experts etc.
3. He (or through the help of fellow members) will go into the respective Poly Forums to identify these experts, and prepare a short-list
4. Current ISDG member can also recommend Members, and these names will be included in the short-list too
5. The Ministry of Recruitment review the shortlist with the Consuls. X number (say 20) would be identified as "Target". These "Targets" have skills that are valuable to our ISDG
6. The Consuls & Min of Recruitment will send a joint invitation letter to each of the Targets separately to urge them to join.
7. Min of Recruitment to follow up on their response.
8. Hoorah .... Welcome party to all new members.
