My terrible night! A tale of stupidity! (not my own for once) Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Normally, I don't mind stupidity. In fact, without stupidity in the world, I would be lacking a source of entertainment. But tonight, or rather, early this morning, I was rudely awakened by completely and utter f8cking stupidity.

While going to college, I live in an apartment. It's part of a whole "estate" known as Versailles. There are 16 buildings, each building being about the size of a football field. The buildings sit on two lakes. It's relatively nice.

This morning, at 2:30 AM my local time, I awoke to the sound of dripping water. At first I thought it was rain; growing up, I used to sleep with the windows open, often during the rain. But this was no rain. I quickly realized that this was water leaking from somewhere. I jumped out of bed and went into the bathroom, which is connected to my bedroom, and found water coming through the linen closet. And not a slow drip, mind you, but a gushing flow. Luckily, my clothes is in plastic containers, and what I have hanging, was untouched. I quickly grabbed a bucket to collect the water. It sounded like it was raining. But I live on the ground floor of a 3 story building. That wasn't right. I searched the rest of my apartment in an effort to identify leaks... finding more above my toilet and one in my kitchen. I called the 24-hour maintenance line that Versailles has and about 20 minutes later, a maintenance guy knocked on my door.

After showing him the leaks, he ventured upstairs to check to see what the cause of this mess was. About a half-hour later, he returned. This guy informs me that someone had a washing machine (which is against the rules) hooked up in an apartment above me. The machine was placed in the bedroom, and the drainage hose was placed in the toilet. I'm not sure whether or not the person was home, but the drainage hose fell out of the toilet and proceeded to flood the floor. The best part about this is that this is on the third floor. The maintenance guy informed me that the apartment above me is vacant, and flooded as well.

As I write this, there are massive water spots appearing on my ceiling. I was told it would be best if I moved my bed, my desk, and my computer our of my bedroom and into my living area.

As with most things in my life, I was looking to place blame for this sh1tty situation on someone. The complete f8cking moron and utter waste of human space that lives on the third floor above me is this person. After hearing of the washing machine (despite there being cheap washing machines in the basement), I started to form questions in my head. Thankfully, I have this forum to vent, for the moment, because I'm really pissed off. I have to ask the following of this person:

1. Why would you have a washing machine in your bedroom?
2. Why would you have a cheap drainage hose emptying into your toilet?
3. How much clothes would you be washing to need your own machine and not use the machines the apartment company has provided (for which usage is cheap)?
4. Why would you run the machine... and then leave it unattended?
5. Are you an absolute god-damned moron?

Unfortunately, the answer of "yes" to question 5 answers the other four questions.

So now, I sit here at 4:06AM explaining my problems on a Civilization gaming site's off-topic forums. Fortunately (as if there's any fortune in this sh1tty mess), I don't have class or work today.

Being naked is very comfortable... and fun with the right company. But I think the current policy of clothes in public is just fine. Considering the pieces of human trash that I see in a normal day, the only thing worse than looking at these people would be to look at them naked.

For what? Nothing of mine was damaged. I'd hate to muck up the justice system with another frivilous lawsuit.

I have a feeling it's a woman. But anyways, nothing of mine was damaged. And Versailles will come in and fix all the damage to the apartment.

Personally, I want to go up to the third floor and throw that f()cking washing machine off the third floor balcony.

FWIW you aren't the first and won't be the last to have this experience. About 18 years ago I rented a basement apartment with my cousin. The ground floor was a dentist's surgery and the first floor another apartment. A dental nurse who worked for the dental practice took the first floor apartment. A couple of days later we found water coming through the ceiling at 1.00am on Saturday morning.

It turned out that the dental nurse had an idiot boyfriend who had plumbed in a washing machine for her. Then he turned the water back on and they went away for the weekend. Unfortunately he had left a tap on, the sink (full of dirty crockery) overflowed and the rest is history.

We had to turn off the water to the whole building overnight and had pans and buckets everywhere to catch the drips. There was some very expensive damage in the dentist's surgery.

But there is some justice in the world. The nurse changed job and moved out within a month.

I immediately thought about because of the college people that would use the washing machines downstairs, this person might be afraid of crusty protein stains left on various items of clothing.

Actually, I had one in my apartment in China, and it was great. Of course, there were no other washing machines I could use. Kind of ironic.

You can deduct some from the rent or maybe get them to put you up in a hotel. If the apartment is not habitable. If you can't use your bedroom. ETc. look into it.

Reminds me of a story my buddy who got me my job at the courthouse tells about his first day working at the courthouse. He walked in with his lunch sack in his hand, and his judge said, "Put your lunch in the refrigerator"
"What refrigerator?"
"That refrigerator, of course. --Wait a minute. Where's the refrigerator?? Someone stole the refrigerator! How could anybody get out of here with a refrigerator. --Wait a minute. Where's my robe??"
