Walls were built around cities, not nations (with few exceptions such as Hadrians Wall, the Great Wall of China, and the Maginot Line). The "bombardment" of the city represents the destruction of the walls so that the army could enter the city and capture it.

Walls wouldn't really make sense. Besides the examples listed above, there has never been a nation that builds a wall all the way around its entire territory. They could include Wonders such as The Great Wall of China or Hadrian's Wall. For border defense, just build a lot of forts with Towers, SAM Sites, and Airfields.
In AoK you build a single city. Think of RoN as being a more macro scale of what AoK was. You don't have to build houses and such either, same as how you don't have to build walls. The idea of walls is automatically incorporated into each city, same as houses.
What might be nice though is some sort of an upgrade that specifically gives your city a wall, with a little graphic to represent this (the city would have better defense). It might be quite cool to have little walls around your cities, like how they look in Civilization.

I think they would be useful as a scenario tool only (not buildable in game, but placable on the map) or as a wonder, nothing else.

Are you implying that RoN is not a siege type game? Have you tried the seige weapons? They are the most powerful weapons in the game short of bombers and nukes. They are the way to win, you just have to be able to protect them.

I think what dearmad meant was that it wasn't a medieval style siege game.

Ok, I get you now. It is a seige game in that your military success depends largely on siege weapons. It's not a siege game in that you can easily build walls and force your opponent to have to "lay seige" to your cities.

I posted this on another site, why I would like to see walls and other objects added:
Hey All,
Sorry to sound like a broken record here but Im not gonna
stop until Im told its impossible to do with RON. ( no wise
guys replies ). We need WALLS (age specific) , Trenches (WWI) and so on.
The Walls/Fortifications impassible but destroyble. As I
said before these can be Editor enhancement only for
custom made battles & senarios, not to throw off solo or MP.
The idea is this, If BHG allows a mod or adds walls to
RON or other fortifications to be researched, perhaps
it can be an upgrade option to the FORT.
Eample: After you get the General you can create a level 1
fortification (current) when the General orders
an entrenchment. Once you research fortification
level 2 at the fort. The general can issue another
entrenchment order and the current fortification
is upgraged to a better fortification or Walls
with the protection bonus to go with it. And so
on. All this being Age specific with graphics &
such.
If this wont be done then at least lets have mods to
allow us to have such fortification objects added in the
editor for our own battle creations.
Chant: Walls! Walls! Walls! Walls! Everyone! Walls!
Walls!
Thanks

Trenches are only good with men in them! Therefore the current system of entrenchment seems fine by me. In any case, if you want to do something specifically for your scenario, why not just place such an entrenchment with a string of towers? Why cannot a continuous string of towers serve the same function as your wall might?
There is a difference between "using siege weapons" and "laying siege". The entire structure of cities and fortifications, in those other games, requires long, drawn-out battles, whittling-away resources and structures. RON is not like that exactly, it is much larger scale.
In any case, I think an excellent addition to the game, in an expansion, would be the ability for commandos to lay mine fields or barbed wire (which could merely be a stretch of territory in which attrition damage is multiplied by .5 and units are slowed also). This would do a lot to add to the atmosphere of WWI/WWII style wars I feel.

Mine fields are an excellent idea for an expansion. If you enter one you start taking damage. Members of the Scout line could spot them, so you can maneuver around them. Scouts could also have a new ability to clear them, which takes some amount of time.

I agree with RON in its current state not needing Walls for gameplay. But we can create senarios & Historical battles if we want in the editor.
Lets face it if there where walls in real life we should have walls here. I dont mean border walls either. There
are battles and senarios that walls will enhance play. Like the Alamo battle can be done to name one. The
ablilty to create REAL Forts and forward bases that are
some what protected by manned entrenchments or
manned walls.
We just need more objects to lay on the Map in order
to create these battles & senarios.

AoK wasn't a siege type game, it was a Town-Center push game.
