He said he wants his face on the $500 bill which is no longer printed. This after he said that he Bush tax cut would increase tax revenue. What a dumb sh1t. Don't forget to check out the picture.

I actually remember going to Vegas when I was a kid and seeing a guy whip out a $500 bill. Back in those days they used to let kids walk the casino floor if their parnent's were with them but when I tried to walk with my nephew across the casino floor the security guy freaked out about having a kid in the casino.

I really don't see what's so dumb about his attempt at a funny answer. He wasn't asked, what still currently printed currency would you want your face on...

His answer was a joke... But it seems like the real joke is on the AP for trying to take it seriously. It's a shame how low the AP has fallen.

I agree 100% with you on this one, anyone who doesn't think it was a joke shows what an idiot they are.

Guess he should have said the eleventy hundred doolar bill so they would know he was joking.

Ummm, tax cuts aren't mentioned in the article. Whether he knew $500 bills are printed or not, is immaterial. Either way, you wouldn't see his face a whole lot.

But, yes that can be construed as stupid. If you want to construe it that way.

Depending on the situation, tax cuts can increase revenue. Mexico is a prime example, where tax rates are so high that non-compliance is endemic and there is a huge disincentive to engage in any kind of economic activity that can't have a good portion of it's revenues skimmed to underreport.

Whether these tax cuts will have that effect on the US economy is a lot more debatable, but there's nothing wrong with the general notion that removing disincentives for economic activity is a smart thing to do.

Whether or not tax cuts could increase tax revenue in Mexico is debatable. Whether or not they could increase revenue in the US is silly.

In Mexico's case, most of the potential tax base in the wealthier half of the country is underground or offshore, both of which are pains in the ass. Evading taxes is hard work. Reducing the burden of compliance vis-a-vis noncompliance will bring a lot of that into the system - that in itself would be enough to offset revenue loss within about 4-5 years, and growth resulting from a larger pool of available capital would be icing on the cake. The tax system is the biggest fundamental obstacle to economic growth here.

In the US, the issues are different, but in general (not counting specific cases of focused targeting of tax revenue a la MITI in Japan, to create bubble growth ), high rates of taxation are not conducive to expanding your tax bases. The problem is that the time scales for growth and revenue loss are different, and there's a lot of other intervening factors that will influence the rate of growth.

I would think that the fact that US taxes are low compared to other countries counts a lot. That and the size of the US economy.

For sure taxes hurt your economy though.

I used to live in Modesto. It is that bad, once you see the rest of the world. At least you're closer to Yosemite or the Bay Area than the poor sods in Bakersfield, though. And still, nothing beats Wasco.

I go to Fresno State. It's a good deal for me and it's home. I haven't always lived here though and I will probably move again soon.

A friend of mine went to flight school in Fresno after college. He said Fresno was the worst place he'd ever lived and most of the people at the flight school had taken up calling it "Fres-hole" because the place was such a hole.
