Azazel, download an album version of one of her songs. Then download a live version. Notice how ****ing out of tune she is when she performs live, but that little problem is corrected on the cd.

When and where was she doing "small gigs?" In her bedroom? She can't play guitar (note: flailing with one hand while holding the strings with the other hand in the one chord you were taught five minutes ago while jumping up and down occasionally is not playing the guitar.). She can't sing, any better than a stray cat in heat. And I've heard plenty of stray cats in heat than can hold a note for longer AND have more vocal range. She can't write for **** - her songs (whoever wrote them) are barely semiliterate and inane. Maybe she shouldn't have skipped so many English classes to skate up and down the halls at school, like she's bragged about.

She's nothing other than an easily packagable "anti-Brittney" because the fat white men who run Brittney and Christina realize there's a market niche for a deluded wannabe to play the "anti-Brittney" role, and she happened to cross the street in front of their car, so she got picked. More power to her bank account, because otherwise, she'd be lucky to work behind a fast food counter or as a car parts store runner.

Anyway, I guess my point is, yes she is an idiot. She is a moron and produces music that is not really punk(for that look at groups such as AFI or Sick of it All). But I think anyone who is going to be popular with today's teenage youth in the age of pop is destined to be an idiot. And I think it may be favorable having someone like Avril be the chief #1 idiot then somebody like Britney Spears or have that position shared by a boy band. The fake puke-ness of Avril, I think, is a lesser evil then the hard core prepiness of somebody like Spears. I would hope maybe there was some chance the anti-prepiness and anti-social status discrimination in Lavigne's music could translate to somewhat more egalitarian values then what you would find with Speers.
